Well I *would* like to think of it this way. Primus would have to be that which balances out Unicron. Or was designed for.

 

So if Unicron was designed to eat planets, what would the benefit of this be?

 

Also, what would Primus' function be to balance this out?

 

Of course it appears now that Unicron is evil and Primus is good. But this most likely was not like this at all times. It is quite likely that their creator made them to do "something" in the galaxy, and the fact there are two of them likely is to balance each other out.

 

And for Unicron to act in this way, perhaps something had corrupted Unicron or maybe he always was that way.

I was thinking about "making planets." But that isn't enough really. Using that logic, you could say that Cows make more cows so we can eat them. And we feed cows so they can make more cows. Doesn't really make sense if you think about it. In the previous example, there is no benefit for the cows to even exist besides act as food.

 

No there has to be a balance.

 

Unicron eats planets for a reason. Not only does he need them to survive, and it gives him power. He wanders about eating everything in sight... but does he? Does he eat organic worlds? I have never seen that. What would be the reason why he doesn't? Why was he made to eat planets in the first place? In what way does Primus benefit from Unicron doing this?

 

Primus would be fighting a losing battle if he just created planets, and it would also mean that he would be what was keeping Unicron alive. And if that was the case, Unicron would not try to destroy Primus because he would then eventually run out of food...

 

So, there must be some side-effect to Unicron eating planets that Primus takes advantage of, or vice versa. What is Primus' function? All we know is that he is a planet sized entity like Unicron. But aside from being able to give life (in the comics) which isn't that big a deal because Unicron can do that too. What is his function? While Unicron is best known for eating planets, Primus is best known for sleeping.

 

Perhaps this new show will spread some light as to what Primus' function is, and what his relationship to Unicron is, and how they effect each other.

Well this may not help the debate at all but in an effort at shameless self promotion i am going to insert a theological debate that i wrote for a fanfic recently because i have been very interested in the dual functions of Unicron and Primus

“Cybertron that is?�, Ataxia weaved his head watching the chains that hung down from his helmet dance in the dim barlight.

 

“Yes, and then Vector Sigma was created by Primus on the seventh Vorn, but Quintessons are just myths.� Faulnis corrected

 

�Just to be clear, you are telling me Cybertron is Primus’s tomb?� Ataxia repeated carefully

 

Satsujin backpeddled just a bit, Ataxia always had a way to disarm him “I just said tomb cause it's the easiest word to use...his bedchamber is more accurate�

 

“Primus will rise again from this body and in this form! And ye’ he will light the darkest hour – and banish evil to the lands wherein there are no shadowsâ€? Faulnis chimed.  Faulnis, never pushed her beliefs on anyone, but if the boys were going to argue on this subject they would damn well be hearing from the scripture as well.

 

“So as we deplete the natural resources, Cybertron dies – Is Primus a dying god?â€?  Ataxia suddenly felt an urgency to understand as he’d never felt before how could he have so blind before he wondered.

 

Faulnis sensed the sudden gravity of his tone “‘Taxi – I think you’re missing the point–“

 

Ataxia: “Could Unicron come back?�

 

Satsujin: Well remember, some say Unicron has nothing to do with Primus

and some say, get this,  that Unicron was created by a boy-genius named Primacron, as a tool...but he rebelled.â€?

 

Faulnis:  “note that I find all that stupidâ€?

 

Satsujin: “Objection noted sweetheart.�

 

“Ok but all of these theories, these stories, they conflict…so maybe Primacron was just another prophet, with delusions of grandeur� Ataxia blurted out, and suddenly realized that they were deviating from the point.

 

Satsujin: “Now your just RetConning�

 

Ataxia: “You mean RetCon for your mythology? Its all Retcon, I mean what can we actually know?  You both agree that we cant know anything for sure. But if we buy into any of this, this myth… if any of this is true, then Cyberton’s lifestyle, this War is just going to bring Unicron back!â€?

 

Faulnis: “Now, ‘Taxi, oil-spot-honey, you are getting dramatic. Besides-�

 

Ataxia: “Don’t you see?  We are all contributing to Cybertron – to Primus’s weakening and dying!  I mean we’re all racing furiously to figure out what this giant planet is and who it belongs to, debating and fighting and no one is actually doing anything to fix the problem!â€?

 

Satsujin: “You are ignoring my whole explanation of who Unicron is –he’s a Tool.�

 

Faulnis: “And really, Ataxia baby,  Primus will rise up to light our darkest hour if Unicron ever awakens.  And the Autobots have the Matrix that contains all the wisdom of generations past and -“

 

Ataxia: “Supposedly!  So they say…What if that’s just a marketing scheme? Ataxia stood up and pounded his finger into the table, “Tools or Gods, it doesn’t matter! Is primus/cyberton dying?  Is it possible for Unicron to return?  What are the Cybertronians doing about that? What are the Autobots doing about that?  More importantly, What are we doing about that?â€?

 

“But these are just myths. Stories you tell mini-spies and gobo-â€? Faulnis caught herslef, and finished the sentence in a hushed voice “-late at night.â€?  The only thing we have to remember is to have faith in Primus.â€?  Rube was leaning against the bar playing a game of Rowker with Tic-Tac.  Other than the slight twitch of his stubbley jaw he didn’t react at all.  And even that may have been in concentration with the game at hand.

 

Ataxia: “Don’t you see. It doesn’t matter if Unicron was trapped in a planet, created with some hyperactive-toddler’s erector set, or just in our minds…I don’t want to continue on, blind to the reality before us.  I don’t see the Autobots creating a healthy world for us!  WE are the Chaos bringers – All Cybertronians! This WAR is devouring our homes, our world – our very sparks … One of these days we are all going wake up and look around and realize that our entire world is dead.  I don’t want to live on a dead and burnt out planet.â€?

 

Faulnis: “But if matrix…Primus will....�

 

“No I think I see where he’s going with thisâ€? Satsujin interrupted, Look at it this way babe:  If you were the Chaos Bringer, the Devourer of Worlds and you had to outwit Primus the creator what would you do?â€? 

 

Faulnis: “I…I don’t understand�

 

Satsujin: “Tell you what, If I were the Devil I would make sure to accomplish three things: First I would make sure that the inhabitants of Cybertron depleted all of Primus’s life source, if not by their own arrogant excess, then by war.  Two: when that war started – heh - make sure that both sides believed that they possessed the only right answer, and that they somehow had the only inroad to Primus’s true words and teachings. Ah-ha-ha-ha. And this is the best part; The third thing I would do if I were the Devil – is convince the inhabitants of Cybertron that I did not exist.â€?

 

Faulnis: “No.�

 

Ataxia: “And now this war has nothing to do with Uincron himself –even if he never returns, we will destroy Cybertron with our own arms, and we will do it entirely with out his having to lift a finger.�

 

Faulnis: “So what do we do? How can we, three minibots, altar the course of this war, of our history�

 

Satsujin: “Well the way I see it, first thing must be done is we decide who in this war needs to loose, and quickly.  The Autobots, the Decepticons or-â€?

 

Ataxia: “Or Both… We will have to use their strengths against themselves.  And we will have to capitalize on their greatest weakness.â€?

 

Satsujin:  “And that would be?â€?

 

Faulnis: “Their complete and single minded obsession with each other.�

 

Satsujin: “They will be out-flanked by their very own war of ideals.�

 

Atzxia: “Lets toast then, to the birth of the-- of the Flankers!�

 

Faulnis lifted her Stein to toast, â€?Waitâ€? Satsujin: “Because Unicron didn't create Primus and Cybertronians create Unicron.�

What if... Unicron was in some sort of prison, being held in orbit round that planet in some kinda stasis (which could explain how they knew what he was, vs TF's not having a clue).  He woke up when he sences the passing of the Matrix (as if the 4 million years of it being asleep inside Prime was not good enough cause he could WAKE UP at any time right...maybe the BW episode where he did wake up for a minute scared him off)

 

He uses the suns gravity to get on a collision course with the planet, eats it, and then has the fuel to get his giant metal arse to Cybertron for brunch. 

 

Gets a serious case of heart burn eating the matrix and blows up.

 

Primus could be similar to Unicron.  Pooping out moons, which explains the 2 new moons (or else what, the autobots BUILT them after building a city?  Naw that's nuts)

Ahhh, but we also have to consider, which versions of Primus and Unicron we're talking about :tfgrin

 

G1 Unicron is definitely not the good twin, as he more or less tells Galvatron "Hey, I wasn't going to slag your planet, but you had to go and piss me off didn't you?" Also adding to the fact that in the cartoon, there was no Primus, but rather Primacron... but that's a whole messed up half thought out story that was obviously intended for more than a single episode.

 

Armada Unicron is fairly obviously evil, as he spawns the minicons for the sole purpose of further inciting and escalating the Cybertronian wars and, after all the Transformers are reliant on minicons, slowly use them to capture and drain them of their sparks.

 

As for GF, Primus could just be telling them about the forecoming doom simply so he can get himself activated soon enough to slough his arse out of there.

 

and I'm waiting for my Energon episodes in the mail... so I don't have a clue about them. :wtf

I think it's simpler than that...

 

Ever wonder why there aren't any Unicronian couterparts to Cybertronians?  Perhaps Unicron lacks the ability to "create" life, and instead can only corrupt or destroy it.  This is very much in tune with the theological Devil character.

 

My vote is that perhaps there's even more of them, on a much grander scale.  Why just settle for 2, maybe Primus and Unicron are just cosmic "neighbors," so to speak.  More significantly-evolved Transformers who interact on a scale that individual beings on the human-or-robot scale can't possibly comprehend, like the bacteria living on our own human skins cannot fathom our own level of existence.  Like that little marble in the first Men in Black movie that contained the whole galaxy :)

 

Anyway, I digress - in theology, the comparison is given somewhere that the entire lifespan of a human being is "but a blink of an eye" to whatever higher being created us.  Perhaps, on that same scale, the Unicron-vs-Primus fight is something quite similar... throwing of a punch, gesture of conflict, etc... but as such infinitesimally smaller life forms, it appears as though there's a grand battle to the finish taking place because of the scale at which it's occurring.

I take it you are refering to the moons in Beast Machines. In the movie, after Unicron eats Moon Base 2, there is another moon seen in the background. And Galvatron does say "Cybertron and all its moons belong to me!" Where if there were only two moons, he would say "both its moons." Therefore the extra moon in Beast Machines either was already there, or it had been built between Rebirth and Beast Machines.

Galvatron was ticked that Unicron ATE a moon, he had not given permission to anyone to eat one of his moons.  So that's why he said all its moons belong to me...

 

The possible reason why it was still there in BW, was it could have been a different reality, IE Unicron had never attacked...

 

Or it could they could have just built one.
