what I don't understand, is if Lobo doesn't have a problem with this person who copied his work, (with or without permission) and is now selling it on Ebay,(with or without permission or acknowledging Lobo's was the first) why should anyone else care. I would be FLATTERED if someone wanted to or did COPY MY WORK. Hell, when people here asked how I did the door mod on my Vixen (sideswipe bash) it brought the biggest smile to my face. I thought "wow, somebody actually wants to copy MY work"

 

So I guess the question is:

Lobo, are you offended by BC's actions?

Agreed.  There's been countless Alt Prowl bashes and Alt Sunstreaker repaints to name a couple, some even sold on ebay.  Who's copying who's idea?  Who knows.  Most fan ideas are not trademarked/copyrighted.  If anything, NO customs should be sold since they are rip offs of Takara/Hasbro's ideas.  But I'm not in that school of thought.

I have no problem with BC (or anyone for that matter) copying my work.  Heck, if I didn't want someone to copy it, I wouldn't plaster pics on all the boards.  I post them to share what I made and maybe inspire someone else. 

 

Oh, and maybe Hasbro will see my work, pay me for the idea, mass produce it, and give me royalty checks so I could retire early.  (like THAT would ever happen  :tflaugh )  What a minute, the new Red alert's Alt mode looks a awful lot like my Prowl and the new Sunstreaker looks just like mine.  I was the first to paint him yellow with 2 black stripes!  Their totally ripping off my idea!  Where's my check HasTak? :tftongue 

 

But credit for your work is always nice to receive.  I always try to give credit when I make something based on someone else's work, because I'd expect someone to do the same for me.  Plus, the realtively small (but growing) number of us kitbashers in fandom all pretty much know who made what anyway.  So it's kinda hard to copy something without giving credit and someone not knowing about it.   

 

I'm actually not even really upset that he's selling it on eBay.  It's HIS custom after all.  I'm watching the austion and hope it'll give me an idea what mine might be worth.  The prices of customs on eBay always seems to be either really high or really low for some reason. 

 

Anyway, remember, these are still just toys.  And if your reading this BC, I'm glad you liked mine.  Awesome work on yours! 

Funny thing is BC ia banned at every board i've been to, even allspark, and some unknown poster is pimping his auction. (Can we say Alt ID kids?)

 

First, credit or not, this guy shouldn't be profiting off your idea but then that's your call anyway...

 

..second, I like yours a HELL of aLOT better then BC's knockoff.

 

It just has that personal details you can replace cheeply like the siren lights. (His has RID Prowl's...sucks...)

Second, technically NO ONE should be profiting off customs....let alone claiming ideas for their own.  I'm not saying his or Lobo's is better than the other, but both have their own methods on doing everything - YOU, TFMaster should know this better than anyone.  Each person has their own style, and the sweat and blood, let alone close attention to detail that go into BC's kitbashes is enough to warrant me liking them.

 

He's not selling the idea - he's selling the work done to a figure that maybe a select few can even compete with him in the same class.  Geeze.

 

TFMaster - I've seen your kitbashes and while some are wonderful and great, some are downright atrocious and I wish I didn't care about what happened to a good toy, but do I ever feel compelled enough to come and Starscream about it on a forum?  No, I don't.  Everyone has their own ideas on what a figure or custom should look like.

 

My suggestion is that you take your egotistical megalomania for ruling the world of kitbashing with an iron fist, and for lack of a better phrase, shove it.

 

We collect and modify because it's fun, and yes, some of us offer up our skills to others who haven't had the time or luxury to develop them as subtly as we have.  I've got my share of kitbashes at home by others, BC included.  I've also got my own endeavors which I'm very proud of, whether they are my own personal ideas or 'copies' of something someone else already did.

 

Hell, some of us, including yours truly, even write guides to help people do what we've done in the past.  Would I dye a megatron sword for a quick buck?  Probably...and I'd be happy to help someone, even tho it's not officially MY idea.  Would I have to document who I figured that out from - um, no....not really at all.  It's nice enough that the person credited Lobo on the idea, even though he didn't have to at all in the first place.

First off, I did say it was just my opinion and second I said I would take offence because BC and I have a history that has nothing to do with you. Others have gotten crap just as I have from him for the same stupid reasons.He made a comment and I commented back.

 

I never said his work was total crap or the like, I just know him well enouph to know that this was souly done for the purpose of profit wich is his call to make and understandably doesn't offend anyone or even the person that orignally created it.

 

My point was that NOONE has EVER thought about taking the Hound/Swindle mold and make Inferno untill Lobo did and that nothing or noone can take that away. It's that simple.Recognition is a big part of what we do and someone can easily come along and take the glory for it.

 

Besides the cheep lights I really see nothing wrong with what he did. He did a awesome paint job along with some great decals to further the look along.

 

I also have work done by BC. I have his Armada Dinobot that he put alot of heart into and still proudly display it to this day.

 

It was NEVER a question of his abilities it was a question of his ethics that some of us know all too well compared to others.

 

Maybe you know him outside this and maybe you don't. Who cares! But you haven't walked a mile in my shoes as I walked the path with him and had to deal with his antics.

 

Someone made a comment and all I saw was someone else that had to deal with that and I found someone to validate that I wasn't crazy that he really is that way.

 

Now unless you know some inside info on what was witnessed and have some real basis of wich to butt your nose in on a converstaion that really wasn't directed in your general direction for comment then just butt out.

 

Now you know where you can stick it.

I've sold a couple of my Alt customs ranging anywhere's from 30.00 to 90.00 on Ebay. I hope this answers your question Guld. I repaint them, enjoy them for a bit, get tired of them and sell them. Simple enough. I've sold everything from my skywarp repaints, prowl, sunstreaker, Diaclone blue bluestreak, ect ect..... me personally you copy it and can make money on it then I say go for it. I might learn something from the person who copies it.

So if I ever get up enough effort to make another Ultra Magnus I should think about E-Baying it.

btw, I know Bodycount rather well...and while he has done his fair share of things to piss me off, I value his friendship more than to dispense him over some trivial quarrel.

 

I read these posts more than one would think and to tell me to not "butt my way into an argument" when it's a PUBLIC forum is just further evidence that you seek control of the hobby and don't want anyone to question your treatment of other kitbashers.  That's quite sad.
