WARNING to all kitbashers dont use brasso!

Recommended Posts

i heard the product brasso was good to use on plastic to get scratches out... well it does but it also gets lodged in any molded detail and is near impossible to remove. i had some eary success with the product on hoods fenders what not, so i tried to clean up my g1 galvatron, bad idea. every detail line is now filled with the stuff. so a warning to everyone, it aint worth it.

Noted.

Thanks for the tip, and sorry it ruined your Megs :tdown

no offence but i got a bottle of brasso right in my hand, and its sez its for metals aka coins and jewelry. Who told you to do this, they must have been really cracked up. If you wanna get it shined and taken out just take a dremel, add a buffer attachment and start buffing, after a while it'll be out.

And, as an added  bonus, the friction will melt the plastic nicely.  :P

(seriously, I tried it on the Meister I turned into Prowl, and was lucky not to destroy the part!  :redface)

To shine plastic, just use toothpaste.

As for removing the Brasso lodged in the details, try using either 90%isopropyl or denatured alcohol. NOTE: be CAREFUL with the denatured alcohol; it can be POISONOUS!!!

Also, easy-off oven cleaner is also good for removing crap fromplastic; just be ready to repaint the entire thing. Another alternative is "goo-gone." I would personally try the goo gone before anyof the others.

goo gone will discolor any plastic. i just used to get adhesive off of a g1 tailfiin and it left it matte... which was fine since I was repainting it... but goo gone will screw it up.

NOTE: I also used it to take the decals off of alt smokes, and it almost melted the roof completely after some hard rubbing.
