Take a look at those AFA auctions posted recently in Seen it on eBay. Sure, they're beautiful display pieces...but are they worth a small fortune? IMO, not really. Most of those can be had as either reissues or KOs, and if it's about the same quality as the original but for much cheaper, that's a benefit.

are you talking about the unicron for 150 au? cuz that guy  is a complete crack job.  :tard

for me i'm a psycho when it comes to the toys, but misb and any grading does not apeal to me. I do like to have good condition boxes, with all the stuff with them, but i do like to take them out at least once for the most part if it possible.

the problem is that most people ar into the whle box stuff, so i hae to pay more for sumthing i dont want. P.S. does any one know of a place to buy opened tfs?

What's the real discussion here? Whtteher or not AFA rating hurts other collectors, or whether or not you think AFA rated figures are worth collecting?

I don't see how AFA rating hurts anybody. People that want perfect, MISB toys from 20 years ago can get them with the peace of mind that they are authentic and and top condition. The rest of us can buy loose figures, which do not cost an arm and a leg.

Whomever said Alternators will be worth a lot 20 years from now, I'd seriously doubt it. TFs from the 80's are worth a lot because of nostalgia. They were a craze back then, and those who knew them want them all over again and we have jobs to afford to rebuy our youth.

With no story line (show) Alternators will not have such a strong appeal in later years, unless they get really G1 authentic, become harder to find, and blossom into the mainline TFs with a good story to follow.

Beast Wars miiiight be big in 2015, but it wasn't really a craze,  so who knows?

It depends on the collector. I don't leave much MISB, but it's not like I don't have some. I like to mess around with my figures, but MISB still looks so perty. Even crap figures look good as long as they're sealed up. It's amazing how the packaging can change perspecting.

I've been considering sending some of my stuff in to AFA, but I would probably have to actually sell off some of said stuff in order to pay the fee without cutting into my own budget, so until I want to actually sell my stuff, or I make it rich, I probably won't get into it with AFA anytime in the immediate future.

Why are you scrutinizing the practices of other collectors, grim? :wtf I mean, your preferences are your own but there is an obvious market for this stuff. Just because you think it's inflated or overpriced isn't going to make it a bad thing. It's an easy (albeit, somewhat pricey) way to insure the value of your valuables. It's akin to taking diamonds in for grading, but we deal in 20 year old toys.

OK, I'll go buy one of the legions of Alt. Silverstreak and get him AFA graded. And he'll probably get a high grade. Does that make it any more right? I don't know. You tell me.

Somehow a bunch of geeks calling themselves an authority doesn't seem that impressive to me. Just a thought of how these guys must looks makes me loose intrest in breakfast in total. Not to mention the fact that they decide how much a frikking toy is worth is even less appetzing.

However, I do not think they're a serious threat to collecting. After all, the whole AFA thing is just an opion which you can disregard whenever you feel like it.
