Don Murphy Updates for 5/15/05

Recommended Posts

I'm worried about the Arcee situation. Although I can see the point of fans that Arcee ain't the most popular TF, I think she'd have a wider appeal beyond the fanbase, and if characters that don't have that appeal aren't included, the movie could tank no matter how faithful it is to the source. I appreciate that Don Murphy wants to please the fans, but I worry he may be losing sight of pleasing everyone.

I agree, I am not to keen on having a female TF in the first movie. Maybe down the road, but not in the first movie...unless she is the TF that dies (which in turn allows the overpowered Autobots to find new strength to defeat mighty Megatron and his Decepticions. :thumb).

Los, your thoughts are in direct opposition to Rod_Max's.

Rod_Max, I'm glad to hear another fan question if Murphy is going too far to please the fanboys, but it's still not something to worry about. DM's reputation and career are based solely on how much money he can bring in. That is always the top priority of commercial film making.

Sorry, but I agree with his point of Arcee being in the movie solely to please a wider fanbase. While I think it is a good move moneywise,  am worried that it may affect the story and possible sequels (is Arcee the only fembot? Are there good and evil fembots? Do tranformers have sex?).

But that is a fanboy interpretation of Arcee. The normal moviegoer will not put any serious thought into that, nor should the writers/directors/producers.

Arcee has been around since 1986, and Elita-One and her pals were in Season 2. Fembots are a part of G1. I don't see anything wrong with having a fembot in the movie.

BTW I wouldn't worry about Don going too far to please the fans. He is one voice among many, and we should just be glad that there is someone in our corner.

Not that I wouldn't enjoy a total reimagining of the brand.

Actually I was posing those questions from a normal moviegoer perspective. I never questioned this stuff as a kid or an adult b/c I never cared for the Arcee character. But you maybe right, normal moviegoers may not question why a race of robots would have 2 sexes.

Well even without fembots, the TFs are all pretty obviously masculine anyway.

Why are some upset with possible inclusion of a fembot in the movie?

a robot is a robot, does it really matter?

If the movie has to appeal to a broader audience, so be it. I hope it makes it money back and brings more into the fold of transformer fandom.

i'd almost bet money it has to do with the launch of Cybertron. Then again, i've never been right before, sooo.....

what doesnt anybody remember TERMINATOR 3'S TERMINATRIX?

the idea of "female" robots has been around for god nows how long AT LEAST 1926/7

GET WITH IT!

I always thought ARCEE was one of the best charactors in the series

sultry sexy sassy brainy gutsy big fraggin pistols!

how many female human charachtors in any film can claim that????

So would you guys feel allright with female Decepticions in possible sequels? What about the addition other female Autobots later on?
