The only flaw I can see with their factions being chosen at assembly is the traitors like Dinobot and A. Wheeljack.  Are life experiences enough to let a spark rewrite its own programming?

Well he was still a "Dino - Bot", so I guess the name was still okay. :tflaugh

the two concepts are completely contradictory. a tf cannot have a spark and be reprogrammable. if a tf has a spark then it is an actual life-form as opposed to a mere machine and cannot be reprogrammed any more than an adult dog can be reprogrammed to think it is a mouse. if a tf can be reprogrammed then it could not switch sides on its own as it has no true free will.

I always saw reprogramming like brainwashing a human. The TFs are lifeforms not just "robots." In BW they have Sparks and in the comics they were created by a God making them as alive as you and me.

I always assumed (retcon) that the Transformers real designations are simply serial numbers...something that started near the beginning of their creation, and as they traveled the universe and their programming expnaded, they picked up on using names and nicknames that were representative of themselves in some way.

That's like saying that human behavior is determined solely by nature or nurture alone, when it is truly both that help to make us what we are.

Just because TFs are machines does not make them black and white. Programming at their level of complexity could allow them to be governed by the program and independent at the same time.

What Don said. Anyway, you see this all the time with people who have psychological disorders. They don't function in a normative fashion because of something that's going on with their brain. Point is that a spark is like a soul or a spirit, and that spark can be housed in any body, which exercises control over the expression of that spark's nature.

Anyone who has used Windows knows that programming can progressively drift as time and experience goes on.  Despite what the original function of the machine is/was

So that explains the Maximal upgrade -- they all switched from PCs to Macs. :tflaugh :thumb

:stone HEY NOW! :tard

Was thinkin about this eariler.. in MTMTE, Bumblebee and Wheeljack were both called such before Bumblebee was a beetle.. I doubt he'd even know what a 'bumblebee' was on a giant metal ball.. -SEE! IT WAS ORGANIC AT ONE POINT!!!- haha kiddin..

I think they probably went by serial numbers until they developed their own persona.. which they seem to be able to change at will, kind of like renaming files on a computer. Least, thats how I see it. Like in retrospect.. Bumblebee should of not been named untill he was on earth, but oh well.. Wheeljack is excuseable, I suppose..
