Don Murphy Updates for 5/8/2005

yeah which brings up another question.  I know Don mentioned the posibility of this being a secret war, like the Armada cartoon.  I can't personally see a giant robots flick without Cities lying in ruin and autobots being slammed against building while people fleeing every which way.  What do you think?  as a majority...private war, or epic, world wide Independance Day war.

World War III!!!!!  Cities trashed, people stepped on, panic, the whole nine yards.  Think about it, for what reason would a giant transforming robot have for hiding from a human?  None.

I thought that myself but then I realized that they're not immortal. They're stronger than humans but we still have the firepower to blow them all away.

We will kill ourselves in the process though if we nuke everything.

I think recognizable voices are fine if they're right for the part.

Recognizable "celebrity" voices are not right for any part to me.

Well yeah, but I take issue with the use of the term "celebrity" as though it should be distinguished from "actor". It's not like they're going to get Paris Hilton to voice Arcee and Donald Trump to voice Soundwave (I hope). A successful actor is going to be well-known; that in itself is no reason to pooh-pooh them. After all, you recognized Casey Kasem's voice in Cliffjumper and Bluestreak - did it bother you back then?

A good actor can dissolve into a role, and this is especially true of a voiceover where you're not looking at the guy the whole time. For instance, when I watch Toy Story, I'm mentally aware of the fact that it's Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, but I'm not visualizing them in my mind or anything. Their voices become one with the characters. I certainly know what you're talking about, and I think Don M. has no intention whatsoever of going that route.

If there's only seven of them it'd only take one. KABOOM

But I'm just saying this b/c I'd like to see something where the Decepticons are working "underground" at first. Eventually I want balls-out action; I just want it to build to that point.

Doesn't have to be a nuke.

Considering the way the 30mm cannon on a Warthog can turn a tank into swiss-cheese, I think even a Transformer would like to avoid being shot by that weapon.  Unless they'll be made out of some kind of "space metal", which is a bit of a copout.

Really, the only logical reason for them to hide from humans is if we can inflict damage to them.

For the Decepticons anyways. I could see the Autobots having something similar to a "Prime Directive."

Cullen is a very strong point for me too, and I'll more than likely include something in the reel about him, though I already know Don is fighting on our side for that one.  The World War 3 is definitely my opinion, but I wanted to get a feel for everyone.  My favorite episodes were the ones with chaos in the City.  The Sean Burger Episode comes to mind specifically, and the footage with the Seekers plowing through buildings in some of the best G1 animation of glass breaking.

Electro Magnetic Pulse could also do the trick, no harm to humans but nasty on robots.

But at the same time, episodes like that highlight the small size of the Decepticon forces. This isn't going to be a large-scale battle if you only have seven or so guys per side. It'll be a skirmish the way Beast Wars was. My gut tells me that this is gonna be more of a Raiders of the Lost Ark deal where the Autobots and Decepticons are racing to find the Spark first. I think all the city-destroying stuff would be unnecessary.
