Don Murphy Updates for 5/8/2005

yeah which brings up another question.  I know Don mentioned the posibility of this being a secret war, like the Armada cartoon.  I can't personally see a giant robots flick without Cities lying in ruin and autobots being slammed against building while people fleeing every which way.  What do you think?  as a majority...private war, or epic, world wide Independance Day war.

I think it's pretty naive to think that a battle involving giant transforming robots is gonna be "secret". :tflaugh I guess it all depends on the premise. If it's the G1 "plunder Earth and steal its resources" thing, then it's not going to be much of a secret unless they do these "mysterious stealth raids" or something. But if it's all about reclaiming the "Spark" (as it's become known) then the Decepticons might actually have a completely different strategy. (And you gotta think that even the Decepticons would want to avoid detection, seeing as the flesh creatures still have nuclear weapons and stuff... :tfgrin(

It would add a nice level of suspense to have this big mystery that gradually gets revealed as the movie goes on... you only get one chance to do a movie that way and those ones are usually the best (think "first Matrix movie"). I'm sure there will eventually be big battles in human population centers.

I think it starts out as a "Secret War"

Murphy also said that it will be from the human perspective - so, that by definition means - the humans will eventually have to know about and be affected by...

Hunter

I dont mind the human element, so long as it's interactive with the Bots, not just running around while they fight their war, though I really doubt they had that in mind.

Ok, but now a question or two for you guys.  What, in this movie can't you live without?  I mean if it wasn't in the movie you would probably still watch it, but feel something was missing.

Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.  That alone could make this movie spectacular.  Cullen added so much personality to Prime.  You felt him at moments. After watching Beast Wars and especially Beast Machines, David Kaye is the most awesome Megatron voice I've ever heard.  Of course he plays a different Megatron, but..  Anyway, Frank Welker as Megatron will be an added touch, but another thing that will definitely make this movie is Frank Welker doing Soundwave's voice exactly like he did it in the G1 cartoon.    That wwas the most cold, lifeless, scary, robotic voice ever.  It was awesome!!  Another thing I would really like would be the original "Transform" noise.  That was such a unique-sounding thing.  Even still in this day and age it is very unique.  In Beast Wars, when G1 Ravage says "Decepticons FOREVER!!" and transforms with the original "Transform" sound, I was like "YES!!!"

Anyway, I feel those things are definitely a must, with Peter Cullen being at the top of the list.  Also, any recognizable celebrity voices, outside the Transformers circle, would be completely wrong for this movie.

I think recognizable voices are fine if they're right for the part.

World War III!!!!!  Cities trashed, people stepped on, panic, the whole nine yards.  Think about it, for what reason would a giant transforming robot have for hiding from a human?  None.

Unless human weapons can damage them.

Not talking small arms, but more powerful weapons such as tank rounds and 2000lb bombs.

I thought that myself but then I realized that they're not immortal. They're stronger than humans but we still have the firepower to blow them all away.

I think recognizable voices are fine if they're right for the part.

Recognizable "celebrity" voices are not right for any part to me.
