Springer - An Unsung Hero

Recommended Posts

I like Springer. I always thought that, if not Ultra Magnus, he'd be the most logical choice for leadership.

A trailer might be a little much on a helicopter, though.

nah.. it would've been more like e-Bulkhead's attachment.  :)

Somebody should photoshop Springer in the air with Prime's trailer hanging off the back. :tflaugh

Springer was one of the G1 characters that came after the movie that was actually worth his weight in plastic.  You can say what you want about Rodimus, or Ultra Magnus.  But Springer was teh bomb.  Triple changer for one, Cool character in the toon, and Arcee had the hots for him.

He's hardly ever talked about...and with all the hating on the Post-movie characters and toys, Springer pwned them all.

But then you could argue that the only reason he was good was because he didn't have a glaring fault like all the rest.

Kup - Annoying Elderly type with a story about everything.

Blurr - The way he talked made you want to drive nails into your temple.

Wheelie - If you rhyme one more time I'll shove my foot up your exhaust port.

Rodimus - Poor me, poor me...I'm the commander of the Autobots and I can't handle it.

Ultra Magnus - Pwned in one shot.

etc etc.

Perhaps the best thing you can say about Springer was that he didn't inherit a glaring character flaw that made you hate him.

Actually, I never really liked Springer.  He was kinda arrogant, IMO.  I will say that, visually, he was cool.

And Arcee was Hot Rod's girl, duke. :tfgrin

Arcee was a mother-figure to Hot Rod (or maybe the older sister..).   She was hanging off of Springer's arm. ;)

well, to begin with, The Movie isn't part of Japanese G1 continuity.
Yes it is, even though they didn't get the movie till the late 80's it was summorized in the Manga, and in FFOD

Headmasters and all those Japanese G1 shows aren't part of our continuity at all.
Rebirth is, obviously Japenese G1 is better for that fact.
Japanese Beast Wars' story and a couple characters were changed (most notably, they didn't know that (I think it was) Tigatron and Airrazor were gonna be in love, so both were male (and, apparently, "gay").
I agrea the jap BW dub sucks

By the same token, our G1 was the "real story", while the Japanese dub was just a re-do. :)

Headmasters was not a re-do of Rebirth

As for the "not admissable"..  well, XB has this insane notion that ALL TF continuities somehow blend seamlessly together, and, therefore, can be spoken of interchangably.  :P
G1 ,2010, Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone, Battlestars, Operation Combination, G2(manga), BW, BWII, BWNeo, BM, and Universe all branch off from G1

Micron Legend, Superlink, and Galaxyforce are not related to G1

Car Robots is in its own special corner of the room

He was an Hon Solo rip off

Hardly.  The central characteristic of Solo was that he was a Rogue.

Springer was not that.

Bzzzz.  Try again

So, wouldn't that make Hot Rod/Rodimus the Hans Solo rip off, per my intrupetation.

I think what Xbob meant is that Springer was the same type of smart-alecky "cool guy" as Han Solo.

Yeah, but Han had more "Bastard ya gotta love" joojoo than Springer.  Still not feelin the comparison.

Why would you even want to compare Star Wars and Trasnformers. X.x

I mean, maybe Vector Prime's Alt mode...but still. >_>

The character was cool and as far as I've noticed, no one speaks poorly of Springer. It's not no much that he's "unsung" as that the majority has already reached a concensus that Springer was "big pimpin'" and don't feel all that compelled to relish in said "pimpin'" unless circumstances require.

The figure on the other hand... well, there's a lot of G1 guys that make me damn near cream myself just thinking about in toy form. Hound, Wheeljack, Soundwave, Prowl, Megatron, Sideswipe and Hot Rod to name a few. However Springer, who is still very much in my collection (thanks to a good buddy to sold me his), pales in comparison to his show counterpart. The one in my posession now is in better shape that the one I had as a child... and it still keeps trying to kill itself. Tipping over if the weapons aren't held at the proper angle :roll Never really cared for the way his vehicle modes looked either. The TV Springer is pimpin', whilst the toy is totally gimpin'.

Try to take him from and I'll break your arm, but I have to be honest about him.

Rebirth is, obviously Japenese G1 is better for that fact.

Why is that the only point you bring up about why G1 sucks? Seriously, there's more to it than Rebirth. I admit it had its ups and downs as a cartoon, but it wasn't terrible overall. How many people here have seen Japanese "G1"? Not a lot, I imagine. So how would anyone else know about their quality? Sure, I could always get those bootleg Headmasters and Victory DVDs from eBay, but I'd rather not. But either way, Rebirth isn't what G1 is all about... =/

Nevermind that the Japanese series carried so much lame ass suckitude that the only redeeming factor was that there were toys to move it along. :P
