so what happened to the plan to restore the tf's technological purity?

what do you mean? :tfhuh

ok, let me see if i can porperly phase this.

If megatron was all about restoring tf's technological purity, then it stands to reason that he would purge the tf's bodies of all organic elements and give them purely technological bodies. instead, he purged the tf's of their bodies altogether and stored their sparks in little cannisters.

now again, how is a disembodied spark in a little cannister considered "technologically purified"? it seems more like it was purified of all its technology rather than just the organic bits.

Ah, I see.

Remember that all Cybertronians on Cybertron already *were* "technologically pure". Megatron's vision of technological purity extended beyond a robot's mere physical form, however. He felt that the purest technosphere would basically be a Borg cube where every being serves a single, common purpose and where there is no individual thought or "free will". To provide an analogy, Megatron believed in a terminal/mainframe kind of system as opposed to a client/server kind of system (hopefully that analogy will be meaningful).

Point is, technological purification (to Megatron) involved more than ridding Cybertron of any organics. The obsession with wiping out organic life stemmed from Megatron's own self-loathing. Technological purification was more about removing variables and unknowns -- basically removing the possibility of disorder and chaos. Given the fact that Megatron was ultimately undone in Beast Wars by the unseen emergence of an individualistic will (namely Dinobot, who provided the Maximals with the means to defeat Megatron), it is easy to see why he would be so determined to rid himself of the "chaos of disagreeing minds".

They didn't have enough money to make the Matrix and Spark Chamber separate.

um... that is to say, that was a rather poor decision on mainframes part.

Emperor Megs, can you please re-edit my quote out of your post?

Dude, seriously, you need help.  This is the first I've seen someone get so pissed like you did over this.  Get up from your computer and go get some fresh air, you can certainly use some after that outburst.

well, he could have at least used a better choice of words.

ex: "I wish to bring unity to the transformer race" or "I wish to unify all transformers under a single will"

he did say something like that, in the second ep of the first season.

yeah, but i think that angle was eventually buried under the endless ranting about how organics were bad.

a pity, too. not only did the "unifying under a single will" angle make more sense in regards to megatron's actions but it was also a much greater perspective than the simple "organics vs. technology" angle.

Has anyone brought up the fact that the Autobot Matrix would have been as big if not bigger than most Maximals? And why would Maximals have an Autobot doo-hickey?

I think you must have missed all those times when Megatron was talking about a single guiding consciousness. "A Wolf In The Fold" is all about that. And like BG said, Megatron stated his philosophy the first time he met up with Primal again in the second episode. If you pay attention, it's all over the place.

I agree about the 300 years thing. I know that Skir at least always saw BM as taking place looooong after G1 and even BW.

And technically speaking, a "deus ex machina" is something that comes in at the last minute out of nowhere in a WTF-ish to save the day. (see "Eagles" in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings.) Megatron's virus was all a setup to the BM story.

Yeah, the whole 300 years thing just doesn't sit well.  It should have been more like 300 million years.  Then that could explain a lot.  Considering Transformers units of time are far greater than humans, if you go with the comic book side as well.  1 Vorn = approx. 83 Earth years.  300 years is far too short a time for a lot of the things that suppossedly happened.
