Well "Megatron" is smart enough to be dilligent with what time stream he meddled with - so, regardless of when he returned, he could have allowed the events of the "axalon", "BW" and "Agenda" to happen so that the world was proper for his *NEXT* move which included the trapping of sparks and poking holes in jars, and much gnashing of teeth

that's cuz G1 was written in a different way - lots of episodic stories rather than a single linear timeline. (notice complete absence of GeeWun flameyness. :thumb)

So then that would explain why they had the original animal bodies from season one.  Megs might have gotten there before end of season one.

they were "devolved" to their original beast modes by Megatron's virus. NO VOK FOR YOU!!

so, instead of restoring the tf's technological purity, he wiped them out and repopulated cybertron with several mindless drone armies?

 

and like i said, free will wouldn't have been a problem if megatron reporgramed the vehicons to remain loyal to him even after he infused them with a psark, like he did with the BW sparks.

the way i see a possiblity of the timeline is that megs arrived after the events in the agenda (or eve before if he had to develop his virus ) when talking about his methods in the agenda he says that he "covers them" like the original megatron with a backup plan. he may have had the virus befoe he left but would only use it as a last resort if his plans for the past failed.

 

 

Anyway... back to the original topic. in beastmachines megatron sent out a signal from cybertron to every transformer to return to cybertron where he infected them with the virus, the matrix bearer (if the term still existed because they were ruled by the council of elders which was probably saw over by a prime) would more than likely have been infected

megatron's plan of technical purity was his control and no evolution of the tfs as a species (do some reading on nazi germany and arian race and you'll know what madhammer was talking about and how it fits with it)
