Need help with Alt Wheeljack head color

Recommended Posts

Just got Wheeljack and found out Hasbro is being lazy again. You know how they didn't color all of Sideswipe's head and left a bright red patch, they treated WJ even worse. Every thing except his forehead and chin strap is DULL gray. I can live with this but his eyes are black and nut blue. Also note that his gun is dull gray too.

Now where I need help is I would like to make his face and ear fins silver and the back of his head black. I am no where near a kitbasher so I dont know where to begin with the proper paint and tools small enough to get the job done effectively.

Wait till you guys see him in person. It's like his body is bright white almost looks painted(in some areas it is) the blue is reflective. then you get to his head and it just doesn't match.

Thank you in advance.

I too am disappointed with his head and weapon.  I've been thinking about at least painting the eyes light blue, maybe a bit lighter than those on Alt. Hound.

I wish they had made the fins a clear blue plastic, but silver sounds like a good choice.  Even a painted gray color would have been better than the plain plastic.

I'd just be careful in doing this.  I've only done some minor painting on Alts., the side mirrors on Jazz and Ravage's feet.  If I try to paint the eyes, I would first mask off the rest of the head very carefully.  I would also paint the eyes white first and then blue.  I learned this from painting Ravage.  If you put the main color on the black plasitc, it won't be as bright as it should be.

Okay, to do what you want, you'll need:

Tamiya acryllic chrome silver paint

Tamiya gloss black paint

a #1 flat sable hair artist's brush

a #000 sable hair round artist's brush

(both can be found at any good art/craft/hobby shop)

alcohol/water mix for thinning the paint (50/50 mixture)

the silver accents should be easy enough with the 000 sable brush, while the black should be okay as long as you can basically handle a brush to begin with. if needed, use scotch magic frosted tape to mask lines off. As for thinning the paint, the paint shoud be the consistency of milk. if it's too thick, use the thinner Sparingly.

Good luck with your project!

Tamiya's "Sky Blue" (X-14) is perfect for Autobot eyes.  I'd use two thin coats.

Thank you guys. I'm starting to get used to his dull look but I would like his face to be silver. This'll be a fun project.

You can also use a metallic silver sharpie, I did it with Vector Prime and he came out great!

Good idea, Cyclonus X!

Take apart the head and remove the eyes if you can. They'll be much easier to paint that way.

Do they sell these at craft shops as well?
