How exactly did Bob Skir almost RUIN Transformers?

Recommended Posts

Now you may not care for all this, and that's fine. But it does kind of bother me that my enjoyment of BM is being likened to being a Britney Spears fan. You really don't want to get me started about how well-thought-out G1 was.

I wasn't trying to say that BM is the equivalent of Britany Spears, or that you are the equivalent of a Britany Spears fan. I could see why you like it, but I will never look at it that way, and that's that. I was just trying to illustrate how some people like things that others loathe. If you want to spend time and money indulging in those things and enjoy it, you're free to do so. "Freedom is the righ of all sentient beings..." Ha Ha....  :tflaugh

I could have used any example whether in music, movies, cars, hell, whatever. People are entitled to their opinion.

I thought Marcus was being serious about his question, so I was simply answering why some people feel Skir ruined Transformers. All of it is opinion. Which is why I said if you enjoyed it, fine. Just don't go make any decision based on what people say without seeing it first. That goes for anyone reading this thread. Try Beast Machines out and come up with your own conclusion. I also DO NOT agree with how people treated him and threatened and attempted to berate him. It's was embarrassing that people in our fandom are like that, to say the least.

The other argument of how the only people who hated it were G1 fans is ridiculous. Like someone else said, sometimes things suck because they just, you know, suck, in some peoples opinions. I'm a huge G1 purist, but I'm the first to say they really need to change alot of the stuff in the new Movie, or it's going to looking f'ing ridiculous....that's another thread for another day however....

For me BM wasn't what I considered TF, and that was comparing to not only G1, but the Japanese series as well. Don't you think it's interesting how Car Robots/RID sparked the interest again in TF's? Yes, the show was not the best, but the designs and were what people considered TF's. Hell, the show was pretty silly, not as bad as G1, but up there. I seriously don't believe BM did anything to revive the interest in TF's.

Placing outside of the TF universe, the story might have worked, but it still needed alot of extrapolation. Something that might have happened if it has been given a 3rd season.

Anywho, what's done is done. I'm glad you like the show. It's too bad I can't appreciate it like some people can, but what can you do?

;)

Personally, I haven't seen Beast Machines yet. At the moment, to me it looks brilliant. Some of the toys, I would gladly buy if I had the chance. But I don't. I was six when BM started. Ebay is completely rubbish for this sort of thing because my Dad says I am not allowed to bid. I really think that [although Rattrap made that deal] Tankor/Rhinox's characterization is perfect. I really want to see the script of that episode where he says that thing to the drone...

i kind of feel that bm is best discribed with the pinocchio metaphor: the oracle wanted tf's to become living organisms as opposed to cold, mechanical robots. the oracle wanted tf's to grow and evolve. besides,

at the end of the series, everyone on cybertron is given a techno-organic body so there's no need to worry about it being a down grade since everyone was down graded.
I think people get so worked up because the ending to BM just makes it all so final

if you didnt like the techno organic thing...  it just blows the whole transformers continuity irreversably in a different direction

I mean seriously changing Cybertron so radically...  hard to get around that but by scrapping the entire histroy and starting over like they have

it was still a kick ass show though

I didn't really like the ending myself because technoganic sucks.  I would have much rather been a Vehicon myself.  The series totally kicked ass.  I just didn't want the whole organic mess contaminating Cybertron.  Man, I've been listening to Megatron way too long.  I still love the series.  If only Megatron hadn't went quite so overboard with wanting to absorb all the sparks.

actually, i think megatron went overboard when he ripped the sparks out of every bot on cybertron and wired them into a digital matrix of which he was in total control of.

you know, that kind of makes Meg's speeches about wanting to restore the tf's technological purity seem like BS. right from the get go it was all about absorbing the sparks and becoming the next unicron, he was just storing the sparks in those neat little containers until he found a way to fix his body.

That's one of the cool things about the show IMO. It's not like Megatron is totally wrong and misguided. He has a good point; it's just that (as Hornet said) his *real* goal seemed to be more about his own thirst for power. And I thought it was really cool to see a TF series where the bad guy doesn't go around saying "evil wins!!" and the good guy can make serious errors in judgment. It's just a lot more realistic & believable that way.

Anyway, regarding the technorganic Cybertron, my own little fanboy fantasy has been that the level of integration between organic and technological evolved in the years following Beast Machines, so the visible differences between organic matter and "techno-matter" would be on a much smaller scale. Basically setting things up for the way Transtech would have looked. :D Kind of an H.R. Giger thing. :thumb

Beast Machines was an incredible show. I was really sad to see it go.

It had two shortcomings:

1) Had to be written around the absurd little plot that Hasbro set up.

2) It was cut short because of factors like Hasbro pulling funding and a retard making a death threat.

For such a ridiculous concept, this is still possibly the most brilliant bits of writing I've come across in the TF franchise. Bob Skir turned the whole thing around and we got to see characters grow and adapt, which is something no TF show has ever really done, especially not on this scale. The visuals are easily the best that Mainframe ever did and is easily the best use of CG in a TV series, everything else just plain falls short.

The toys were "pick n' choose", but the show was phenomenal. I'm on edge waiting for the bloody series to finally hit DVD.
