Omega Supreme's New Claw

Recommended Posts

Thanks to SkyQuake for the inspiration!

After seeing his claw modification to Energon Omega Supreme, I started wanting to do the same (or, at least, similar) to mine.   Finally, I recently came across several of the Spider-man 2 Doc Ock "grabby claw" toys, and snagged two of 'em for KB purposes!  :clap

Here's my progress, thus far:

The claw is attached to the Doc Ock arm via three screws around the plate at the back of the cuff.  The claw is held onto the cuff with three screws in the claw plate.  Once that was dismantled, I had to modify the cuff to fit properly on OS"s arm, without it looking too out of place and/or goofy.  This demanded some cutting (I love the hot-razor-knife tip for my soldering iron! :thumb).

Now, OS's factory-installed claw is connected to a hinge-post.  I took out all the screws in the part of the forearm that lunges, pulled the two halves of the arm apart (careful, the little grey gun piece on top of the arm is also screwed together!), and dremeled a hinge-hole in the back of the newly-remodeled Claw-cuff:

Behold!  It fits perfectly!  (however, with the claw attached, it's ever-so-slightly too heavy for the joint.  the remaining bottom parts of the cuff keep it from tilting too far down, but I'm gonna look into using a  piece of heat-shrink tubing on the hinge-bar to bulk it up just a smidge, to make the joint tighter.  if that doesn't work out, I'll probably fall back on my old standby--clear nail-polish top-coat. :P)

Out of the package, the Doc Ock claw is spring-loaded, so it stays open until you squeeze the handle-trigger. I wanted my OS's claw to be posable, so...  teh springies go bye-bye!  After I pulled out the springs, I gave the hinge-posts on the "fingers"--as well as the recesses in the cuff piece--several rather thick coats of clear nail-polish top-coat.  (Now that I think about it, maybe heat-shrink tubing is the better answer here, as the only problem with the claw hinges is that the posts are slightly too small to hold in place...I'll have to check that later)

And, finally, a shot of the big guy with his new (albeit, unsanded and unpainted) posable claw!

yeah, the claw is gonna be painted. :thumb

I'm currently thinking of making the cuff (or what's left of it.. :P) yellow (to match the arm), the claw plate black and the claw itself red, like his original.  (along with various small detail painting)

That looks like it could kick megatron's tail clean across the galaxy

nice job DLP

Can we see some pics of the claw in action?
