Anyway, (back on topic) I'm not so sure whether or not the TFs should be more Sci-Fi than they already are.  I would rather see the writers "mix it up" a little.  MY, perfect transformers show would be a mixture of several genres, a Sci-Fi/Action/Dramady if you will, a mixture of Sci-Fi and action with elements of both drama and comedy.

I think the writers pulled this idea off rather well in the BW and BM shows. There was both drama and comedy in them, and they delt with how the Preds and Maximals adapted to their new beast, transmetal, and TM2 forms and how they used this new Technology to adapt to or affect their ever-changing circumstances and environment.

But, over-all, it was an action show, because no one really wants to see a bunch of robots sitting around in a psic-ward talking about how the technology in their new body makes them feel.

Oh, and Twitchyy STAR TREKs NOT DEAD!!!!!!!!!

It's the same thing as a star war.

We're not trying to get personal here. We're just having a discussion, hopefully one that we can all learn from. All we're trying to do is explain the established definition of the science fiction genre (a term which, admittedly, is often misapplied). You can call Strawberry Shortcake science fiction for all I care. But it doesn't make it so, any more than me calling "Blade Runner" a chick flick makes it so.

Depends on the girls you know :tflaugh

But since we are discussing, let me give you the reason as too why I view it as sci fi/fantasy. First off, its a basic good vs evil fanatsy story with knights and wizards and all sorts of fantasy type characters. Now it happens in space utilizing lots of sci fi themes. While that may not fit the definition of science fiction. It is a space opera. Much like Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon. Space Operas are the foundation of sci fi entertainment. Thats a general term used by those whom enjoy the fantastic. If I so label Star Wars as a sci fi/fantasy, then I used a general term. Not a definitive term, but a general term that basically covers what kinda film we gots here.

See where I'm going here? Science fiction is movies like 2001, sci fi is silly movies with guys with ray guns. Sci fi is a general slang term for movies with heavy science fiction themes. Thus me calling Star Wars a sci fi/fantasy fits the general label.

I'm going with the casual termonology, while your going with the dictionary.

how......? Don't leave me in suspense!!

I guess there does need to be a name for all of these space movies that are really just fantasy adventure films set in outer space... or does there? I dunno. There's not much true science fiction in film anyway - it's mostly a literary genre. So whatever.

*will be up all night wondering what he was going to end his post with*

Man, I guess my brain farted. I think I was gonna say it's like how there will be a dictionary term and a slang term. Like gay really means happy, while it's commonly used to refer to a homosexual. That make sense? I'm admittedly tired and about to go to bed.

But yeah calling something sci fi is a general slang term, at least around all the geeks I've been around. And I go to Dragon Con each year, thats like geek mardi gras. Science fiction is a difinitive term, sci fi is a general use slang term.
