Michael Bay On Board To Direct Transformers Film

Recommended Posts

Quick reality check here -- this isn't a movie that's based solely on a comic book -- yes, I know there was a Marvel comic series, but more people remember the cartoon and toys than anything else about G1. A cartoon movie can be approached differently than a comic book movie -- not too differently, but there is a significant change from one format to the other. Armageddon is enough of a strike against Bay for me to feel iffy on the movie, but I'll probably see the film regardless of the director, however...I'd love it if he WASN'T the final choice.

Going more along the lines of cartoon adaptations...look what we've gotten in the past. Inspector Gadget is a film I'm embarrassed to admit to having seen, and though I hadn't seen it, I heard Garfield was deplorable. Scooby Doo was kinda depressing for anyone that was a fan of the old show, too. Basically, they should just go watch those movies and make a list of how NOT to do a movie based on an old cartoon based on what they see in those films.

I'm not sure where the Comics comment came from MG...but...Garfield, Scooby-Doo, and Inspector Gadget are all very goofy properties.

I know G1 was too to many extents, it was a kids property, but if DW and the Marvel Comics have shown us anything it is that G1 can be taken more seriously and pushed harder to be more mature and be about actual war, giving more depth and variety to the characters and situations. I'm not saying make it exactly like the comics, but you can't solely base it off the cartoons either. You have to find a good, solid foundation between the two, while "upping the antie" so-to-speak.

I really agree that we don't need another older property being updated to be something along the lines of the movies you listed, Scooby-Doo was the best one and only 2 of the main characters were treated well.

I call BS on that. It's blatantly obvious they made the second 2 up on the fly after the first one was a success.

You can call BS on it all you want. Doesn't make it any less true. You just didn't like the sequels.

This movie is a comic adaptation. Murphy has stated that it is based on the early Marvel comics.

H-h-he...he did? I missed that. Got a linky Mr. Cassetti?

Please don't make he find it. It was some time back in July, before I even started posting here.

I see...I thought he said it was going to be based more like a combo of the two continuities...and not solely on one more than the other.

Guess I mis-read or heard wrong.

It's based more on the comics? Eh... *Predicts them bringing Primus into the mix somehow* Please no...please.

Actually it is to a degree, he said that DeSanto was leaning towards Budiansky's Marvel run.

Doubtful, Don wishes to avoid that type of thing. Besides Primus was a Furman idea that came late in the series, the movie is based off the early issues style.
