US Transformers G1 Reissue Line on Hiatus

Recommended Posts

I also feel that over-production and being just a tad overpriced helped the line to the state it is in now. I would pay $20 for cars, $25 for jets, and maybe $30 for something like Soundwave or a Prime/Magnus.

With the hiatus, I guess the Astrotrain that was displayed at OTFCC last year is in limbo, but I want to know what happened to Sideswipe? He was released in Canada and some stores around the border. Hasbro seems to think he has been released here in the US. The only thing I can think of is they shipped all of their stock of him to Canada. He was the only reissue I needed to have a complete Hasbro run of the Commerative Series.

It's a shame they couldn't just post this news on their website. We have to ask them for it. Isn't that what their website is for? To post news and current status on their products?  :tfmad

Considering the current status of their site... maybe in a few weeks.

A a general rule, you never report BAD NEWS on your site. Only GOOD NEWS.

News is news.

You would think companies would want their customers to know what is going on. Weither a toyline is being cancelled, but on hold, or whatever. We only hear about this stuff through fan websites. I think it would be best hearing about it from the company itself.

So no Dinobots, Soundwave , or Predaking!! Hasbro sucks. That's what happens when the change a classic toy and then call it a re-issue.

Well first of all, the reissues were still more than that. I paid $25 for my Tracks, and he contains very little die-cast, and no paint, plus his missiles don't even work. It's not an expensive toy. Second, why can't they sell them cheaper than that? What difference would it make?

This is basic economics. I agree that the reissues were overpriced, but I also think we would all admidt that the current prices are way low because they are just trying to get rid of the shelf-warmers, not because that is the "ideal" price point. I would have been happy paying somehwere in the middle between what they are now and what they originally retailed for. Another thing to remember...just because TRU originally charged $X amount for them, not is not necessarily Hasbro's suggested retail price (MSRP)...TRU is allowed to charge more than what the manufactuer "suggests."

Also, I get Hoist & Inferno, but they had no problem unloading Starscreams at $35...they were not even close to being shelfwarmers and they fetch $50 on Ebay now...the demand is there for popular characters.

Well, thank you for this unbiased, well-thought and strictly fact-based comment.

They really weren't reissues, though, in the sense that they weren't the same products. That's essentially the same as calling Universe a reissue line. Did anyone actually consider RID Bludgeon a "reissue" of G2 Hero Megatron? Of course not, and he was just a different color. These had different weapons, various remolds, different stickers in some cases, the works. They really weren't reissues, and again, there goes another justification for price-gouging.

That's kind of sad that the bloated missles version is going for that price. I would expect the Takara Collection reissue Starscream in anime colors with the Megatron gun going for less than that. I picked up mine for about $38 shipped when it was new. I also picked up the Takara New Year's reissue Starscream about 2 1/2 months ago for $27 shipped.

some people like Hasbro way too much.

The quality between the two would be enough to make me prefer the Hasbro version. I have both and the Takara version is much more loose and it came that way.

Yeah, the Hasbro versions were much higher quality toys.

??????

How is this? I have three Hasbro seekers, a Hasbro Hot Rod, Silverstreak, Grapple, Red alert, and sold a Hasbro Jazz. These figures are either Identical or share a mold with Takara figures I already have, as I have every Takara Transformers Collection Reissue. Out of what I have seen, the quality of the Takara figures was generally better across the board. Red alert in particular is not in the same level of quality as my Takara Sideswipe. Overall I find the Hasbro reissues no more than equal in quality and usually less with a few LARGE exceptions:

1. Hasbro has either removed the launching mechanisms or made the missles ridiculously large and stupid looking with every figure with missles.

2. On Hasbro Jazz, Silverstreak, Prowl, and Smokescreen, they replaced Chrome guns and missles with black guns and missles. Not as nice as the originals, though I will say that Silverstreak looks quite nice with the black ones.

3. Hasbro Jazz was superior in quality to Takara Jazz. This is the main exception to Takara being equal or greater in quality to Hasbro. My old Hasbro Jazz was a LOT tighter than the Takara Jazz I have now, and I have heard from other people that this is generally the case.

4. Takara has VASTLY superior packaging and extras.

5. Hasbro Optimus Prime has shortened stacks, which is annoying to a G1 purist like me since the shortened stacks look like an old G1 Optimus Prime with broken stacks. The stacks were always the first thing that breaks on G1 Prime.

If you really think the Hasbro reissues are higher quality, say why and be specific. I have a fair number of Hasbro ones, and all of the Takaras, and I think you're nuts.
