Giving your soul for G-1

I doubt that I will ever feel compelled to spend big money on super rare exclusive versions like the Gold lucky draws

I agree for the most part. the gold and black Super Fire Convoy is probably the only lucky draw worth the kind of money lucky draws sells for though. I like how it looks, a lot. :redface

I could go the Rodimus Prime "Primus" lucky draw. Mmm.... shiney...

Ebay is still evil to everyone's eyes except mine.  I have gotten GeeWuns at a reasonable price.

It's more than possible... it's all a matter of luck, and knowing how to search.

My G1 Swoop was listed as "Transforming Pterydactyl robot", and I won it for just under $24.  No weapons, but he looks pretty.   :thumb The deals are out there, you just have to know how to work the system, or have a lot of patience.

Strangely, I have his weapons, yet don't have the figure.  :wave

The only TF I spent the most on was Brave Max that was $130

I mean he is 2ft tall...

However I could not fathom myself spending the same ammount on G1 Megatron or Prime because those robots are incredibly dinky.

Heck I wouldn't even pay 40 for G1 prime...

my point in bumping, was that this thread conveyed my feelings without me haveing to start a whole new thread, even though i was compelled to do so...

the only reason these toys are costing so much is because we are alloweing them to charge us that much for exclusives and older figures... and mentioning Predaking is flawed because that is 5 figures not 1 figure.

I'm talking about paying hundreds and thousands of dollars for a single figure... and in the case of the red exhillion, a NEW figure that with different paint apps sells for $10 new and $5 open

Um... okayyy, besides that this is still the same collector's market where people were paying in excess of $500 for G1 Predaking loose before the reissue? $400+ for the smooth bubble Tarantulas?

Welcome to the [REAL] world, dude. Did your bus get delayed or something? Supply and demand, short supply means increased demand. Your feelings are [COMPLETELY A] moot point considering the redundancy of your claims, just because you don't like people spending money doesn't mean they're going to stop.

I completely concur. I can't speak for others, but some of your concerns are unrealistic. Sure none of us like the fact that really deep pocketed collectors exist out there in any given hobby, but more power to them. Maybe someday you will become one of them, who knows? But, if any of us wants to and/or has the ability to spend questionable amounts of monies on something, oh well... DEAL with it. It isn't your money, so don't judge. A

Also, fighting the system isn't going to solve or make any difference. Don't like how variants cost more than your willing to pay? Simply solution, do not buy them, period. Most of us go through the phase you are going through, but the quicker you deal with it and accept reality, you'll be better off. Few of us want to hear about this b/c we've accepted it and done what we can to still find a middle ground, I hope you can do the same.

Collecting in any hobby has its downsides, this is one of them. Just be thankful you don't collect something that actually IS expensive like cars, cels, guns etc. Otherwise you'd end up so mad you might go postal. Chill.  :thumb

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents since I was interested in this.

I've managed myself this way.  I made a list (thanks to tfu.info) of all the TFs I'd like to have.  My main jones is for Prime Figures, city bots, and Decepticon Jets.  I also want to finish recovering what was stolen from me.

I'm not someone who's after MISB, simply because I'm going to be setting it up in city mode or adding it to a city, and TFs in a box can't socialize.  It doesn't matter to me what it is from time to time... i.e. Fort Max/Brave Max doesn't matter.  I also don't mind paying whatever it takes, AS LONG AS IT IS ON MY LIST.  Lucky Draw variants aren't important, but I'll pay what I have to if it means a Black Zarak or Metrotitan.  I won't break myself for one... it just means I'll have to wait on a bonus check to get it.  But as others have said, it is my money to spend as I choose.  My collection is my legacy to my kids, and it will be what I need it to be.

I also am not a completist for any line e/c Alternators... and that's only for most of the color variants (I'll get a Smokescreen GT, but not the BT #7 and #8 variants).  I pick and choose what figures I want, since I can look at the Japanese ones and decide.

just thought I would add in my opinions.

Ebay can be your friend, or it can bend you over and...

Anyone using ebay has to be careful, know what you are doing, study the market, ask the seller plenty of questions and all in all just use common sense.

You and me both, man! I've been happily rebuilding my collection without destroying my wallet.

Which is my point. Anyone can build a nice collection without breaking the bank. Why anyone would think otherwise, and care one way or the other that someone else spends bunches of bucks on rare items, is beyond me.

It's true. I saw a Metroplex got for 10 cents once. Seriously. It was missing the accesorries and stuff but it was listed as "the robot one of the kids on Rosanne had on the show!" or something totally bizzare like that. 10 cents, and I missed it because I had to sign in and was too late :tfmad

But yeah, the deals are out there.
