Giving your soul for G-1

This is a carry over from a topic found in "seen it on e-bay" called "has anyone ever seen this"

Be advised this is a rant (though it is a short one)

You know, I love Transformers. I own a ton of them, and I'll admit that way back at the start of beast wars I was getting some stuff off of E-Bay. Grimlock, hot rod, iron hide, etc... but I never paid over $70 for a single toy (except MP Convoy ). Does that make cheap? I think not. I think sane is what it makes me. If this thing sells for $1,000 I am going to find whoever bought it and urinate all over thier new purchase and say "well there goes a thousand smackers sucka!". And laugh laugh laugh

I wouldn't pee on it... I'd steal it for myself. :)

The price is all relative. I can't fathom paying any more than a dollar for Action Comics #1, but to someone else, the thousands of bucks is worth it. Same goes for any hobby really.

I just can't wrap my head around paying top dollar for bumblejumper. Just get me some paint. :)

Yeah, childhood memories aren't worth several thousand dollars to me. Also, I don't have that kind of money.

Well, I think the price in this case is part age part rareness; if these were separate figures I'm not sure if it would able to fetch as high a price as this set does. Personally I wouldn't pay that much for the set, but then again, I wouldn't buy many G1 figures in general.

I think I've figured out why I don't have any particularly strong feelings towards the 1st season folks; I pretty much never had any of them as a kid anyway. I think I only had Silverstreak and Inferno, but I've never had an Ironhide, or Optimus Prime, or Mirage, or the other ones that seem to bring in mucho money these days. I'm sure I had the chance to play with them at one point in time or another.

Oh well...

Most I've ever paid for a tf is £60 on Unicron. Otherwise I've never spend more than £45 on a single tf. I'd love a goodbye megatron set but not $1000 of love. There is sane then there is silly.

Maybe people who win these auctions have recently won the lottery, or are independantly wealthy. I know that if I won the lottery no price would be too much.

Let's just say I'd spend a lot of time surfing ebay if I hit a powerball or lotto jackpot. I WOULD eventually have one of every G1 transformer.

The most I've ever paid for a TF? $68 for 20th Anni Prime. However, if you count a G1 combiner team as one TF, then it's $103 for a G1 Menasor, which hopefully should arrive today.

I personally can't see paying much for a TF... I'ld pay $70 for the new prime, but that's where it'll stop. I'm not a misb frreak, so paying more than "reissue" price won't happen for me... I have the $$$, just to much of a tight wad I guess.

Man am I gonna feel silly when the Dinobots get re-released. I just picked up Swoop to finish off the set. I'm holding off on paying top dollar for the rest of the Autobot cars and remaining seekers.

I'm not up for paying huge amounts of something that's basically a toy and will mostly be displayed. There's bills to pay, food to buy and many other expenses to pay first.
