my point in bumping, was that this thread conveyed my feelings without me haveing to start a whole new thread, even though i was compelled to do so...

the only reason these toys are costing so much is because we are alloweing them to charge us that much for exclusives and older figures... and mentioning Predaking is flawed because that is 5 figures not 1 figure.

I'm talking about paying hundreds and thousands of dollars for a single figure... and in the case of the red exhillion, a NEW figure that with different paint apps sells for $10 new and $5 open

Our hobby is kind of expensive and it doesn't show any signs of gettin cheaper.  The highest I've payed for a single toy is $114 and that was for car robots brave max. The next highest was Metroplex, $100 since it was MISB.  That was then, now i dont think spending so much on single toy is worth.  It will have to be soooo rare to try justifying such a high cost. Then again I've just spent almost $200 buying the first Cybertron wave.

Um... okayyy, besides that this is still the same collector's market where people were paying in excess of $500 for G1 Predaking loose before the reissue? $400+ for the smooth bubble Tarantulas?

Welcome to the world, dude. Did your bus get delayed or something? Supply and demand, short supply means increased demand. Your feelings are something of a moot point considering the redundancy of your claims, just because you don't like people spending money doesn't mean they're going to stop.

Of course, bumping a relevant thread does beat starting a whole new one.

And how does it affect you? Because you can't afford one? If the 10 dollar version is the same thing, why do you care? Buy that instead.

You are going on about people spending, in your opinion, too much on a mold you can get with a bit of different paint for 10 bucks as if you want the price lowered so you can buy one for yourself.

If this is wrong, and you have no plans on buying the exclusive no matter what, why do you give a crap that someone ELSE wants to?

Everybody has limits. thats why i will never own Fortress Maximus. Coz i wont pay more than 50euro for him(box and all)

to me, the only two conditions i think of when i buy an expensive toy is:

1) Do I really want it badly enough to pay the price?

2) Can I spare the money for it without having to sacrifice money for groceries and other bills?

This thread makes baby Jesus cry.

He's not the only one.

For once, I completely agree with Hornet.

Like with any collectible item, it's all about who wants it enough (and who can afford) to spend the most money on it.  That's why Ebay is an auction site.  "Auction" implies that it goes to the highest bidder, and if some guy in Omaha, Nebraska wants to spend $1000 on a Japanese exclusive version of a $10 toy because it has different paint, let him.  When I have it to spare, my $1000 will go on a Fort Max... but that's because I personally think it's worth a grand to have a 2 foot tall centerpiece to my G1 collection in mint condition.  And I will buy one MISB, because as the centerpiece, I want the honor of being the one to open it and put all the stickers on.  That feeling justifies the cost, for me.  It might not for you, and that's fine.  We all collect for different reasons... mine is the nostalgic factor of opening the old G1 bots, smelling that "new TF smell" from the rubber tires, and putting the stickers on.

As for the newer TFs I've bought recently, I have the internet to blame.  You guys have convinced me that the lines from BW to present had/have some cool figures and features, so now I'm expanding my collection to include a fair representation of each line.  I doubt that I will ever feel compelled to spend big money on super rare exclusive versions like the Gold lucky draws or this red Excillon, but I don't mind paying retail or a little more for most of the regular figures.  But, I can understand why some people would... I did pay over $100 each for 4 of my 6 test shot Alternators, simply for the rareity factor.  So I "get it", but that desire is purely subjective.

I'd never spend $40 for an autograph from a pro football player at the collectibles store in the mall, but the lines for those are always horrendously long, and each head represents a fan who is willing to spend $40 on a black and white 8x10 (which costs less than 10 cents to produce, I've had them made for my band before) because some guy who already makes millions of dollars a year to play a game wrote his name on it with a Sharpie marker.  And I'm sure that almost everyone in that line would laugh at me for spending over $100 on a plastic car that turns into a robot.  :tflaugh

To each his own.  :thumb

Ebay is still evil to everyone's eyes except mine.  I have gotten GeeWuns at a reasonable price.

It's more than possible... it's all a matter of luck, and knowing how to search.

My G1 Swoop was listed as "Transforming Pterydactyl robot", and I won it for just under $24.  No weapons, but he looks pretty. :thumb The deals are out there, you just have to know how to work the system, or have a lot of patience.
