Wait, we CAN'T sell children OR kill for TF toys? Oh man, I was way off.

:tflaugh1 Sorry.. thems the rules. You can start a crack house though. I hear Soundwave's got a pretty serious habbit. :monkey

But the prices are really just supply and demand... you can't set a price cap on something that's in short supply with a large want, especially in a collector's marketplace like ebay... because someone will always be like "Well, I'd pay $53.75 for a lose Megs" and someone else would be willing to make it 60 to ensure they got him. It sucks... but, they're a collector's item that's no longer produced (reissues aside for certain molds). It's like to a much lesser extent, the paintings of the great Masters of the Rennasaince era. If they were still around and making paintings, their stuff wouldn't be worth anywhere near as much either...

bump because of the red hot exhillon thread....

This is a carry over from a topic found in "seen it on e-bay" called "has anyone ever seen this"

Be advised this is a rant (though it is a short one)

You know, I love Transformers. I own a ton of them, and I'll admit that way back at the start of beast wars I was getting some stuff off of E-Bay. Grimlock, hot rod, iron hide, etc... but I never paid over $70 for a single toy (except MP Convoy ). Does that make cheap? I think not. I think sane is what it makes me. If this thing sells for $1,000 I am going to find whoever bought it and urinate all over thier new purchase and say "well there goes a thousand smackers sucka!". And laugh laugh laugh

Wow that was... deep. Good to know that the wind swept skeleton that is the concept of a "collector's market" in your mind is nothing like the one dealt with in reality. :thumb :P

If $70 is your stopping point then good for you, but the fact is even back in the day you still wouldn't be buying a brand new Fort Max. Old figures are becoming a rarer and rarer commodity because they obviously cannot produce vintage stuff and regardless of how you feel people have the right to spend their money as they see fit. They can even buy urine off the interweb if that is their desire, or even dookie! :inhpoo

Depending of the kind of things one collects, one can't always afford to be frugal in their purchases as you obviously are. :roll Hell, even the Star Convoy reissue is generally priced at around $100 so that sounds like an obvious no-go. I can't even imagine you going for the Predaking reissue. There are people with more money than good sense, but that's a given in any market and since you've obviously been around transformers longer than a week I'm surprised you haven't steeled yourself towards the weird and nonsensical purchases.

If nothing else, look at it this way: Those who spend WAY too much do you a service of throwing their money away heroically so you don't have to and can point it out later prompting them to suicide. Or something. :thumb

That said... since this thing SCREAMS of needing to be pushed into INH...

The premise is flawed.

There are only so many items out there that will demand more than a couple of hundred dollars. And only a very few can pull upwards of a grand or more.

The fact is that the vast majority of items are very affordable, to everyone. Just because you don't have a MIB or MISB Fort Max doesn't mean you can't build a very nice collection, one you can be proud of, by only spending 10, 20 or 30 bucks on any given 'bot.

Hatin' on those who do blow vast amounts of money at the top of the market is a waste of time. You'll find the same thing going on in every market, regardless of what it is. I can understand being upset if you think you'll never, ever be able to afford to do the same. I can understand thinking it is a bit silly to do so even if you DO have the money.

But simply being nasty towards those who do it just ain't cool. We are all collectors and honestly, so far I haven't seen too much crazy speculation. The market is pretty fairly priced top to bottom. Something that might change as the "live action" film approaches, hopefully only temporarily. IOW, things are pretty good for collectors of all stripes in the Transformers world. Be happy.

I personally would rather spend alot of money on alot of new loot, rather than spending a ton on a single item, or very few items. At least, that is my current "thing".  I know I will eventually shell out big bucks for some nice pieces. I don't know about a grand, but a couple hundred on a single bot isn't out of the question for me.

Anyhoo, just my opinion. Everybody's got one I guess.  :)

Why don't you give it a  bit longer and see if some real discussion starts up first?  Unless of course, the odds are slim to none.
