Custom Painted Armada Unicron

Recommended Posts

The use off too much gray made it look like a bootleg on Planet mode, but in bot mode he looks great. graet kitbash

It's a repaint... :thumb

AND IT ROKKS!!! :thumb :eek :thumb :eek :thumb :eek

That's a surprisingly nice repaint. I'm amazed at how much was painted on him while maintaining a smooth surface. I agree that a little something to embellish the details of the planet halves could help, but otherwise it's great.

Did you paint that? If you did how long did it tae you? It looks really awesome and I prefer it to the Armada or Energon. The green eyes look much and really clean looking paint.

Here's a close-up in Robot Mode. It shows the detail of the chest-plate & waist area.

W :eek W! :drool excellent job! VERY nice repaint

I don't mean to nitpick because I do think it looks really great...much better than the Hasbro paintjobs.

I know you said that you purchased the fig, but could you answer why the lower part of the head wasn't painted grey as well?

Oh!! I just found this, it should answer a lot of questions concerning how this Custom was made:

This was the original Ebay Description:

Up for auction is a custom painted Unicron from the Armada series. I hate to part with this one, but I need to earn money for a Hong Kong trip.

You get all the accessories that came with the box including six missiles, the chest missile, instructions and of course Deadend. (I would have included the original box, but the shipping charges would have skyrocketed.)

The Unicron was bought brand new, painted, transformed once to see if there was any chipping problems and to take pictures of then transformed again for shipping purposes. The planet plates, leg plates, and waist shields were primed, painted, then sealed. Everything else was painted and sealed. The paint on the chest plate is primarily behind plastic which protects it from chipping. All the paints used were acrylics by Tamiya, one of the best brands for model making. 90% of the painting was done by airbrush for a smooth finish. Some of the smaller areas were carefully hand painted. There are a couple of rough spots at the joints of the rings. I had to sand them down to prevent chipping, but I couldn't get the surface as smooth as before. It is only noticeable if you are up close and specifically looking for rough spots. All the functions still work, but I would not advise firing the chest missile since it may chip the paint on the inside of the chest plate.

When it comes to customizing toys, I am very big on making things that won't chip or look like garbage after a few transformations. Obviously, if you are not careful and dig a fingernail into the paint job or scrape it against a sharp pointy object, the paint will come off (Don't give it to a five year old to play with and except the paint job to last). However, careful handling should allow this piece to keep its appearance for many years.

This is my second Unicron custom I have done. I learned from that one and did this one which I think is greatly improved.

Shipping in the United States (not including Hawaii and Alaska): Not to exceed $15.00
