Cleaning Transformers

Recommended Posts

Anybody ever tried putting one of their TF's in the dishwasher to see if it would clean off old grime and dust? I've got a couple oldies but goodies that I'd like to get really nice and clean, and it seems that a dishwasher would really be able to do the trick. However, I'm worried that the level of heat in the water might warp or melt a figure...

Bah. The plastic on some of those alts is so thin it probably WOULD melt. I suppose I could try with an old scrap TF that I don't care if I lose...

I highly doubt it will warp the plastic. Think of washing a plastic cup? Or tupperware? nothing happend to them.

if you are cautious run a delicate/china cycle haha

Yeah, don't risk it. Just wipe it down with an auto cloth and compressed air the Hell out of it. Also, those keyboard vacuums work pretty good.

If would recommend doing a rinse-only wash, without a heated drying cycle. Most of the heat that melts plastic in a dishwasher is used during the heated drying cycle (comes from that large metal coil on the bottom of the tub...).

Seems risky to me. Test it on a figure you don't care much about and put it on the top rack for sure.

I wouldn't do it. I'd also be worried about rust - even the plastic ones usually have metal pins.

As Thad said, use q-tips and water, then more q-tips to dry off. I'd stay away from alcohol - it can damage painted areas.

Stick your dog in the microwave why you're at it.. =P hahaha end the sarcasim.

Whats wrong with a little wet q-tip and some of that Endust stuff? Dishwashers are meant for dishware, not toys.
