So I found a RHD Silverstreak Alternator but I don't really want two apparently identical Silverstreaks on my shelf so I'm thinking I'm going to make Bluestreak. I'd like your input on which version to do. My options are keep him silver and spray the hood black like in the G1 cartoon which is very simple to do ... or I could take him apart and do the original Diaclone scheme, blue body with silver hood. I'm a little more excited to do the Diaclone scheme ... and fear not I'm an excellence repainter having already done versions of Prowl, Sunstreaker, Red alert and a purple Meister (for my girlfriend) that make my brother drool. (I just don't have a digicam and I haven't done the decals for them.)

I'd do the blue bodied version. It will be more distinctive.

My English has gone to hell lately in my typing on this board ... "I'm an excellence"???

if u do the blue body silver hood, just put silverstreaks hood onto smokes ;) i belive the decals can come off without harming the paint but u will need to clarify this with a real kitbasher as opposed to me ;)

For details on stripping a Smokescreen, go here. (Awesome G1 Smokescreen repaint in the link, BTW. Old one, but good.)

To just answer the question though, yes, paint thinner will get the decals off no problem, as the blue isn't painted, it's the actual plastic used in the mold. Unlike Silverstreak, who is painted silver, thwarting any attempts at a "Quick and easy" repaint. (Found that out the hard way. :tflaugh )

diaclone blue all the way :thumb

Why not do both? im mean Alts. aren't all the expensive plus gives u something to do while u wait for the new ones to come out

I'm a huge cartoon fan, so I would go with silver with black hood, black forearms, silvers fists. That's what I did:

I say do the blue one because as you can see in the above post, the cartoon acc. one has already been done and I for one would like to see something new and different.

Looks like I'm going for the blue one, while I do really like your take on Bluestreak, D-Unit. Nicely done.

Jag, I'd consider the Smokescreen outlet if I had seen a Smokes in stores anytime in the past few months ... but he also isn't a street version of the Impreza and his head is different (though I guess I could switch heads with Prowl).

I'm a sucker for the challenge so here I go again taking the Subaru apart and burning through some masking tape. I bought the metallic blue paint tonight ... I hope it sticks. I repainted a Prowl from a Silverstreak that I did not strip without major issues, but that was with Krylon Fusion acrylic. This paint is also an acrylic (by plasti-kote), but who knows ... it's actually meant to be sprayed over a silver base.

Thanks for all of the great input!
