How the hell does one DW series that lives in it's own continuty change people's minds about Ultra Magnus?

 

Ultra Magnus is Ultra Magnus. It's how he was portrayed in the G1 movie and series and in the Marvel comics. He is nothing but Ultra Magnus. He is his own character and that is that.

I gotta agree with Tekyu.

BUt I see this as Takara buying time for MP 3 whatever it may be. We all know they are having a few financial problems as of late. So I agree we shoulda expected this. I am glad to have MAgnus to go with Prime.

true. I'm just disappointed that there was no armor for him.

If they release Ultra Magnus, they should at least make him MP-04

well if u dont like it cause it magnus and not prime think of it as alloy coated optimus from the retuem of optimus prime but im highly aticipating this release and as before someone will make the armor

As if repaints weren't already a heavily integrated aspect of the TF Franchise already...  :roll Not only shouldn't this be a big surprise, but it should be a GODSEND that they bothered to do a paintjob the fandom genuinely loves as opposed to making it another solid black monstrosity in their repaint hordes!

 

I'm all kinds of giddy about this thang! Even though back in the day everyone turned on him like a junkyard dog for being a armored brick with a creamy recolor prime center and a constantly self-doubting f**kwit acting as second-in-command... I really loved this guy and the "War and Peace" portion of the DW comic really gave this guy his due. Not to mention made him into a total badass! I won't hesitate to snatch this up in spite of whatever lame accessories he might have. An incredible figure of an equally incredible character sounds sweet to me. Repaint or otherwise.

Like you, I really love what Dreamwave did with the Magnus character and I do like the idea of him looking like Prime underneath the armor. Also like you, I understand that repaints will always be a part of Transformers.

 

However, aren't the Masterpiece editions are supposed to be the fully realized character, the version you can never top? Well, this repaint could be topped very easily -just by adding on some armor to complete Magnus. Now, I'm not talking about it being made out of die cast or gold or anything (cause that would be ridiculous), but just out of plastic and given a nice metallic paintjob.

 

With the Prime mold being the main body and having the armor attatch to that (a la RID Omega Prime) would be sweet. I would be totally willing to drop $140-150 for that. That, IMO would be a masterpiece as it was intended.

 

But I just don't feel comfortable parting with another $110 for a straight repaint with no mold or weapon changes.

 

I'm not trying to be a "whiney fanboy", that's just how I feel about it.

...hang on a second. We have no way of knowing, at this point, that Ultra Magnus won't come with armour. In fact, I'd say there's actually more indication that he will than he won't. Why? Well, for a start, there's the 'Mystery of Ultra Magnus' section in the instructions. Then there's the fact that at this stage, we have no official photography or word from Takara to indicate one way or the other. But, there is a plethora of circumstancial evidence suggesting he will be armored. MP Prime was entirely show accurate, so one would suspect other MPs will be. MP Prime came with a trailer (okay, so it was card and some people feel the need to crap on the best TF of all time for that reason, they're very unusual), so one would suspect MP Magnus will have some sort of 'bonus'.

 

I honestly believe MP Magnus will have armour. I have no real reason to believe otherwise.

Well, all that i have to say is that i'm happy that they'll make an Ultra Magnus MP. Why is it that some people are mad about this new MP, did some people actually expect that there wouldn't be an UM MP right after his brother Prime?
