Hmmm....it looks like box art for the diaclone version of Wheeljack. Interesting.

The car mode actually resembles an actual Lancia Stratos. There is a link somewhere to a page that has the actual cars that Diaclone used for their toys and sitting in a musuem is the Wheeljack one. That one in that picture appears to be a different Stratos than the Wheeljack stratos. There's a picture with that car on that link as well. I've got the link on the computer at my house.

That was the original prototype for the Lancia. It was put into the first series of Diaclone Catalogues of figures to come. They changed the figure and went with the version we all know and love. The catalog was chaged in the second wave to the different version.

I do not think this proto has ever been seen in reality to the best of my knowledge. Think of it like the blue bluestreak that was in the first TF catalog that was later changed to the silver one in the second printing.

boo, i was hoping this had made it to general realease somewhere, quick change of head and it would be a cool figure ;)

Ya know I think it looks better than the g1 Wheeljack... seems like the proportions are a little more sensible.

I whole-heartedly agree.

following further investigation i found this http://1500bc.com/pretf/pictures/dia13.jpg why didnt they make this one? and if anyone does have a version of it please give (i said give ;)) it to me ;)

If I recall from an article on Toyfare about pre-TF's they showed a pic of a different Lancia with the Marlboro logo on the doors. Plus it had a funny caption. Any pic of that Diaclone?

The first one is the one in the museum and the 2nd and third ones are another picture of that same car I believe as well. The last one I believe looks the most like the photo you submitted minus some of the ground effects and has a different rear spoiler, but hey I could be wrong.
