Would G1 Starscream have been a good leader?

Recommended Posts

Hands up who loved G1 Starscream's attempts to be leader? He was a good character for sure and his attempts were either funny or serious, think he would have been a good leader of the Decepticons though? He was a little too sure of himself, always making himself seem better than he really was. That's probably why he was a good character, he seemed to be very insecure inside whenever he bragged about his skills and that could explain why he wanted to be the leader so badly, to prove to himself that he was the best. Anyone else got thoughts on G1 Starscream?

He would have been a horrendous leader

Self absorbed and cowardly are two traits a leader does NOT need. The guy was an utter wuss (see in "Starscream's Brigade" where he screams like a little baby after Megatron dressed him down and what does he do? He waits till he turns around and shoots him in the back)

I think Starscream was always all talk. He would scheme behind Megatron's back, but once he got found out he would plead for mercy. The Megatron would backhand him. Starscream was Megatron's Starscream, end of story

One show of that was in the first episodes after Starscream was bragging in front of Megatron and Megatron shot him, Starscream was on his knees begging for forgiveness. Galvatron was right to kill him, he did it in a way Starscream never did, Galvatron just blasted him there and then while Megatron seemed to keep him alive for fun. A good leader has to think on those he/she commands, not on himself/herself only.

Starscream would have been horrible. First of all, none of the troops would have any respect for him. He's a loser to the Decepticons (and transformers in general, for that matter).

More importantly, he acts too quickly. He'd be more concerned with having the power than being the leader.

stay tuned to the G1 ongoing comic, I'm sure we'll see further evidence of Starscream's failings

Overall, Starscream would have been a horrible leader, but at times I think he was more aware of the situation than Megatron. Megatron preferred the subtle, long-term approach, and would sometimes overlook the problems occuring because it all seemed to be going according to plan. Starscream was very much a brute force operator (even when backstabbing), and much of his "cowardice" was a somewhat hysterical awareness of things falling apart.

Case in point, More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1: Megatron could have won the war by killing the Autobots before they were awakened, as Starscream tried to do (and ironically causing Teletran 1 to awaken them), but had other priorities.

If Starscream and Megatron had ever truly cooperated, not even the Matrix unleashed would have defeated the Decepticons ...

good point. fortunately, they'll never cooperate

Helloooooo TFans.

I feel that Starscream, although eternally power-hungry, is best suited to a role as a lieutenant commander. Although he is very aware of effective strategy (think of all the situations where he reminded Megatron of what was wrong with Meg's plan, only to be Starscream-slapped down then have the 'Cons screw up anyways), he doesn't command respect from other Decepticons aside from directly after he seizes power. I don't think he would've made a very good leader, but he could've been effective in the short-term...think "Roll For It."
