Fun Publications has begun teasing their BotCon 2012 and has proclaimed that the exclusive convention set for next year's convention for the toyline we love is "[definitely] in top 3 based on concept/mock up." The other two sets are from 2006 and last year's 2011. The set will hearken back to the 1980s and one of the figures is a must have figure of the year, they write. Three of the figures will receive their first updates ever and two will draw on the "distant" past. Read more. Read the Full News Story Here

Strange, I wouldn't consider either of those sets their bests. I consider 2007 (G1 Classics series) and 2008 (Shattered Glass) to be their best sets. Maybe '07 is too infamous, but '08 practically became its own franchise, they're still making figures for that.

Sounds like this year they'll be doing Classics again if they're going back to the 80s for characters. Should be pretty easy to narrow down which characters have never been remade, though it's hard to tell if that includes reusing names or not or things like Robot Heroes or even G2 repaints. To say one of the figures is a must have is hard to believe, all of the must have characters have been done to death. Short of remolding TF:Cybertron Metroplex into Fortress Maximus or an official Sunstorm from the Seeker mold I haven't got a clue. That part about the distant past might be referring to pre-Transformers like Diaclone. Maybe they're making a Road Rage (red Tracks) or Tigertrack (yellow Sideswipe).

They cited this year and 2006 as their best? Sorry, 2007 should have been in there instead of this year :wtf

Yet no info where it is being held at? I think that should have came out 1st before the con exclusive info.

Honestly this years was a let down, and only Shattered Glass was a best. And the only reason why, was case of us fans who saw the joked image and went nuts for it. So I'm betting they canceled whatever they were going to do and went with what the fans wanted for once. So I'm calling Major BS until they can back it up 2012

I wonder if they mean best in terms of quality, creativity, and appreciation from the fans, or best based on sales. I'd guess just sales. After all, the Stunticon set was the fastest selling BotCon set of all time. I love mine though.

Personally, I wouldn"t be suprised of they make some G1 Combiner set's repainted from some of the PCC molds. ( Since that's were the orignal designs came from. :/ ) Like Skyburst as Superion, Bombshock as Bruticus, Crankcase as Menasor, Stakeout as Defensor, or Steamhammer as Devastator. ( With some needing a minor variant on the drones. :/ )
