Ordering question about K-mart

Recommended Posts

The ones here in Southern Florida are so mixed. Some are pretty clean but there are some where I'm wondering just why they are in business. But then again thay aren't in the most savviest of places to have a store.

Same in Orlando. And even though I live 10 Minutes from a K-mart, Walmart, Target, and Toys-R-US, The K-mart is still around. ( Probably because it's a BIG K-mart and has the only Dine-in Little Caesars in all of Orlando. :P )

Ours had a Little Caesars but they closed it without a moment's notice. Leaving all of their employees jobless on the spot. It was messed up on behalf of Little Caesars. Its ok because the managers got them hired to K-Mart.

You think that would be the opposite though. With Target and Walmart, around, the kmarts should be immaculate who cares if there is no competition? Sorry Breaker, but I'm still surprised Kmart is even still around.

The Kmart here is so bad, that the parking lot is cleaner then the store

We had a meeting last week and our regional manager told us that K-Mart Corp is up like 2 or 3% in profits, the first time we've been up since the 90's when K-Mart was bought by Sears. And were actually starting to make more money then Sears. My store is one of only 9 to get mattresses in, trying to eat into Sears even more. Thats why we also carry appliances now like fridges/washers. I think theres about to be a showdown.

I was under the impression that it was the other way around... Kmart bought out Sears. Plus, there can't be any real show down because they're still owned by the same parent company, Sears Holdings. The whole reason Kmart is carrying appliances and such is because they're in the process of trying to merge the 2 companies into 1 name brand. If you notice, Kmart carries the same brands as what Sears has as "exclusives" like Kenmore and Craftsman. I work for an automotive tools distribution company, and one of our customers happens to be Sears, we supply their repair centers with certain equipment. Every simgle paper I get dealing with Sears, refers to both Sears and Kmart as one company. And from what I hear from their buyers is that they're going to try and convert everything to one namebrand, and that the company will have different store types, much like Wal-Mart/WM Supercenters or Target/Target Greatlands are. Now that's still a few years off, but that's the overall direction the company is looking, at least from a supplier/buying stand point.

**edited for exclusive appliance correction

Sears Holdings Corporation, the publicly traded (NASDAQ: SHLD) parent of Kmart and Sears, Roebuck and Co., is the nation's fourth largest broadline retailer with approximately 4,000 full-line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada.

Sears Holdings Corporation today reported its fourth quarter and full year 2010 results. In summary, we reported:

  • Net income attributable to Holdings’ shareholders for the fourth quarter of $374 million ($3.43 per diluted share) in 2010 and $430 million ($3.74 per diluted share) in 2009 and for the year of $133 million ($1.19 per diluted share) in 2010 and $235 million ($1.99 per diluted share) in 2009;
  • Adjusted earnings per diluted share for the fourth quarter of $3.67 in 2010 and $3.69 in 2009 and for the full year of $2.07 in 2010 and $3.19 in 2009;
  • Adjusted EBITDA of $933 million for the fourth quarter of 2010 and $1.453 billion for fiscal 2010;
  • These results were within our previously announced range (see calculation in the attached schedule “Adjusted Earnings per Share”); and
  • An increase in comparable store sales at Kmart of 2.5% in the fourth quarter 2010 and 0.7% for fiscal 2010.

Chairman's Letter February 24, 2011

To Our Shareholders:

2010 was another challenging year for Sears Holdings. Our financial results remain at unacceptable levels, and we are working to drive better performance in both the short and long term. The company generates significant amounts of cash, and we have the ability and flexibility to invest that cash strategically. We will continue to make long-term investments in key areas that may adversely impact short-term results when we believe they will generate attractive long-term returns. In particular, we have significantly grown our Shop Your Way Rewards program, improved our online and mobile platforms, and re-examined our overall technology infrastructure. We believe these investments are an important part of transforming Sears Holdings into a truly integrated retail company, focusing on customers first.

Problem with Sears is that the day of a 'have it all' department store that doesn't offer a consistently competitive price is over. Look at Sears' former competitors. Montgomery Wards: Gone. Woolworth's: Gone. JC Penney: Now focusing mainly on clothing, and they only survive because of their perpetual 'sales event'. Sears is getting smashed by Walmart. Personally, outside of Kenmore, DieHard and Craftsman I don't think anyone would miss Sears is they suddenly folded.

Problem with K-Mart is that, except for a few unique locations, their aesthetics are dour and the stores generally look run down. If K-Mart invested in extensive renovations and got morale up internally it might turn them around.

Don't forget malls themselves are closing down as people are favoring Outlets and Commons. Where the stores there can make their own hours since they open to the outside and not inside. So as long as Sears holds on to the mall, its days are numbered, much like K Marts

Sorry Breaker but I honestly do not believe K Mart will ever worry Walmart or Target. K Mart is merely an afterthought

I have ordered some things from K-Mart and got what I wanted, but there was one time I ordered Human Alliance Mudflap and got Sideswipe instead. I noticed that they didn't accept paypal for the Mudflap order, and I had to input my credit card info manually. The sucky thing is when I returned Mudflap for my money back, they didn't give back the shipping(which may be normal). So, basically I paid 6 bucks for nothing. On the plus side, while I was at K-Mart, I did find Highbrow, so you may wanna try your luck.

Im not saying K-Mart is better then Wal-Mart or Target. Im just saying that my K-Mart is superior to most (from what Ive heard). Im just trying to peel a little back from the stigma that "all K-Marts are bad." Thats probably the case for TFs but not the store as a whole.

And Im pretty sure Sears owns K-Mart. Remember when K-Mart filed for bankruptcy? They were bought out by Sears and went through restructuring. Afterwords our Automotive Garage was shut down and sealed away. Layaway went away (and came back later), they stopped carrying appliances (just resumed this year tho, at least in my region).

I am talking about the store itself when I talk about filth and grime. Since 2000, I have been to 2 K Marts. The Super K in Tucson AZ where the produce department had nothing but rotting fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. The aisles were a mess and more stuff was on the floor then on the pegs. the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. and this was 2007. Then there is the K Mart here in Killeen, TX. Where it is obvious, that they don't clean the floor. employees that wont help you, cashiers who would rather talk on their phone then ring you up and talking about their time of the month(happened the last time I was there).aisles so small you can barely fit one cart in and clothes just laying on the floor being stepped on. Not to mention they wanted $6 for corn flakes cereal. I left and went to Walmart

My Kmart Just got in the washers and such. I used to hate going there cause their Ac wasn't working for like 6 Months. Now that its fixed I don't mind Kmart as much. As for the store itself its hit and miss. Some weeks they are dirty others clean. Tf wise they get all the new stuff faster then the Walmart across the street. But their Electronics department suck they are always out of Merchandise. Its like they order 1 case of a product and nothing more. Ohh I have a crazy Question The KMart used to say Super Kmart. But Recently They took the Super part off. Is that something Kmart is doing now? Also Why do they only open the snack bar for an hr a day? I keep trying to get an icee from that store but never find it open.
