whats the best way to sell your collection?

Recommended Posts

hey guys move this if it belongs in the endcap but i think it fits here in TD

been a long time since i posted

i have had a son and bought a house in the last year and have no room for all my transformers anymore

its not that i dont still love them i still get all the comics and am anxiously awaiting the thundercracker repaint to complete my classics seekers. Its just i have about 400 - 500 o.o.p. bots and need to find new homes for them ill still be keeping my alternators, and mps, classics, random little guys such as noise maze the car bros, and landfill (devi redeco of course) couple of nemesis primes and such. But ive got got most of a/e/c and the first movies stuff i want to unload along with other random bits and pieces ive aquired in the last few years.

dont get me wrong i in no way shape or form have decided to quit collecting but im trying to trim down substantially from what ive already gotten to just the pieces that really speak to me.

so heres the question:

whats the best way to sell off a large collection, mostly 100% completes nontheless? ebay each? ebay "lots"? "the end cap"? some other random tf auction site i dont know about?

im not looking to make a whole lot of money here if i can get 50% of their original cost plus shipping covered ill be fine i just need to reallocate 8 years or so of toy collecting to different things like house maintenence and raising a small child like i said theres not even room to display them nor is he big enough to even play with them safely.

i dont regret buying these toys nor should anyone i love them but things change. so what are you guys the experts of todays field suggestions where do you guys go to look for older but not vintage figs?

PS ill of course be posting them here in the EC first before evil bay

Ebay is slow right now. I say the rarer figures by themselves and the common stuff in lots. Pm me a price for the lot as tax return is coming soon

You can offload your collections to online retailers like Big Bad Toy Store and I think Robot Kingdom too. Ive never done such a thing but I'd look into it. To eBay everything at once, Im not sure you'll get as much interest (the price would be rather high for that many toys, plus shipping would be a nightmare). To piece it out would be fine but that'd take forever to find a buyer for each figure plus a zillion runs to the post office.

If it were me, I'd piece out the "crown jewels" that I know I could make a profit on. Particularly in demand things like Upgrade sets (Superion add-on, Crossfire, Protector), G1s, MPs etc. Then anything I had any sort of question about or didn't sell that way, I would just bulk sale to an online retailer for a quick buck and a clear head.

I found out the only way to get rid of stuff I dont want is to sell it far below the going rate. Sure you cant find a Classics Astrotrain for under $20. But did I just sell one for $10? Hell yeah! Maybe I could've gotten away with $15 but I really needed to move a bunch of stuff. Big mark down is a good way to get rid of things here and there.

Well, It depends on what your selling. Best bet (for you) is eBay.

P.S. If you have an extra Energon Wingsaber or Beast Wars Optimal Optimus I can slavage from, let me know. ;)

Theres a new transformers selling site called Crave transformers and you can sell them on Crave

IMO you're better off selling your toys individually because most collectors would rather buy your toys individually rather than an entire collection as a whole. For example, my G1 collection is almost complete, so there's only a few figures I need. Hence there's no way I'd ever purchase an entire collection or even an entire set. For example, the only Deluxe Insecticon I don't have is Ransack. I'm not going to throw my money at a complete set of Deluxe Insecticons just to get one. Yeah I know I could easily sell off the others (especially here cos the Deluxe Insecticons were never sold in Australia (but they were sold in New Zealand... weird huh?)) - but I'm not willing to spend all that money on the entire set to begin with. So I'd skip that sale and wait for the opportunity to buy Ransack individually at a cheaper price later. I know it's more work to sell your toys individually, but I reckon you'll sell them easier and in the end make more money for it (cos if I were to buy a large expensive lot of toys of you, you can bet your arse I'd be haggling for a discount).

I personally don't use eBay... so I can't comment on that. If it were me I'd try selling it to other collectors on an online forum (like this one) first -- then seeing if I can sell them at local collectors fairs.

Yeah but he's looking to unload his movie stuff and outside of a few exceptions, they dont garner really high prices. Except for when they first came out and you couldnt find them in a store that is. Im not sure what the going rate is for A/E/C stuff but I bet its the same.

I'd sell them individually too. You could maybe try to sell some of the less important figures in small sets, I think a small set is more attractive than a huge lot.
