Fans Cry Out - Murphy Defends Rogers

Recommended Posts

Fans are in an uproar over John Rogers being announced as the TF movie screen play writer. With duds like Cat Woman under his pen, fans are posting what they think on Don Murphy's message boards. Murphey defends Rogers saying "John Rogers is a tremendous writer. We all read his draft of Catwoman. It was awesome. We all thought the film Catwoman sucked ass... Films turn out good or bad and get rewritten and other people get credit all the time. John Rogers is one of us. He gets this." Read these comments and more here.

To me its kind of like school. When a student get an A its the teacher who gets credit foir it. However, when they student gets an E, they are to blame.

Honestly, I never saw this movie getting a PHAT budget so I guess you get what you pay for.

....an E?

Anyhow....The way I see it, Catwoman as a film DOOMED to tank. It's uninteresting material and based upon a Batman spinoff character, that wasn't even kept in it's original form. There was NO interest in Catwoman at the time, nor are people willing to not only SWALLOW a Catwoman movie, but also accept that it's not the Selena Kyle/Michele Pfeifer Catoman...It's like Daredevil, arguably a Spiderman spinoff character. There isn't enough steam or fame behind him to warrant a huge movie turnout. Same problem with the Hulk. Famous, but not "cool" famous, and hardly worthy of a movie.

Look at it this way.

Sam Raimi directed Darkman.

Sam Raimi directed Spiderman.

but dark man was cool :wtf

and for that matter so was HULK IMHO

Darkman was debatable...Hulk was okay, I'm sure.

But they tanked and are considered bad movies.

Here's another one...

1998's Godzilla.

Against

The Day after Tomorrow

Indepdence Day

Godzilla and ID4 are debatably bad....altho ID4 was a hit, as was The Day after Tomorrow.

When Sam Raimi was chosen for Spiderman he already had some great cult movies under his belt, namely the Evil Dead movies. The same with Peter Jackson (who, before Lord of the Rings, directed Dead Alive). John Rogers has very few credentials, and none that are encouraging. According to IMDB.com:

Writer - filmography

(In Production) (2000s) (1990s)

  1. Killing Floor (2006) (announced)

  2. Catwoman (2004) (screenplay)

  3. Core, The (2003) (written by)

... aka Core (2003) (USA: poster title)

  4. Red Skies (2002) (TV) (written by)

  5. American Outlaws (2001) (screenplay)

  6. Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage (2001) (VG)

  7. "Jackie Chan Adventures" (2000) TV Series (creator)

  8. "Cosby" (1996) TV Series (writer)

With writing experience like Catwoman, The Core, and Cosby, I have little faith that TF will be good, at least in a "complex plot and character interaction" manner. However, I hope it will be an enjoyable special-effects-laden popcorn flick.

okay i see where you are comming from and since i didn't say it before I will now, I agree with Bodycount, you never know what someone is capable of or how well they can do with a certain project. I will remain optimistic about this movie until i have seen it for myself. I have been waiting 20 years for a live action TF movie and I'm not going ot nit pick it to death.

I refuse to watch the American Godzilla movie :puke

I refuse to watch the American Godzilla movie :puke

word is the American Godzilla and Japanese Godzilla fight in Godzilla: Final Wars, the *gasp* final Godzilla movie.
