Why did Hasbro go with funky colors for G2 Transformers?

Recommended Posts

Why did Hasbro choose to use funky or tacky colors for G1 Transformers in their G2 Universe line? Was it to differentiate between G1 Transformers and G2 Transformers? Did they run out of the appropriate colors from their G1 counterparts? Was this done on purpose solely to differentiate itself AS G2 Transformers? I mean a blue Grimlock or blue Aerialbots are a far cry from their Generation 1 "normal" counterparts that we are used to seeing? Same goes with the faction insignias as well. Why did they change the design of the Autobot and Decepticon insignias for the G2 line? I am just curious, that's all. :)

Bright colors were in at the time to draw kids attention to the toys. They may have gone a bit overboard.

Some of the colors were garish, but in retrospect I am more offended by the spring-loaded missile launchers.

HAHAHA....that was fun to watch. I love how that lady was really getting into her sales pitch *pew-pew*. Man, I love that Laser Prime mold. He's a fun figure, of course, I am going by the Nemesis Prime repaint for the JP RiD line. I miss those old school toy commercials too. :redface

Neon and Black lighting unfortunately went way over board back then

Dude that guy had the best job in the world! I want to travel the country and tell Transformer Stories while playing with them when I grow up! :P Man I want that guys G2 jacket.

Oh its easy to see why they went with those crazy colors. It was the beginning of the 90's and who didn't have clothes that matched!

The best part of G2 Transformers commercials is that many had 2 versions... one had an announcer, and the other version had rap music!

"It's heavy metal crunchin' time / as Optimus Prime / goes toe-to-toe with Combat Megatron / Prime is one tough dude / underneath his hood / he's a transformin' missile firin' phenomenon!"
