So I got War For Cybertron Yesterday...

I beat the game...

I'm so disappointed. There was so much potential. The designs were cool, the gameplay was excellent, and the voice acting was top notch. Unfortunately, the game just wastes the Cybertron setting, 'cause

the end of the game is immediately prior to the events of the beginning of G1 and there's so much cool stuff that should have been in it that just wasn't.

So, let me put it to you guys this way about the game: Prime and Megatron NEVER FIGHT. They don't even see each other in person, though they do talk. That big, badass trailer with Omega Supreme and Trypticon and the Autobot and Decepticon armies duking it out? NEVER. HAPPENS. You NEVER get to see a giant war happening around you in a big, expansive, transforming area, like what was seen in the trailer.

You hear about them happening, but you're always stuck in a 3 man strike team sent on some side mission of great importance.

I have yet to play Escalation, maybe that will give me the big, epic fight I want. I don't know, I hope so.

Well, Trypticon was awesome

(he's a giant space station orbital cannon), but the final fight with him is too long, too cheap, and once you run out of ammo, ALL YOU CAN DO IS DODGE TRYPTICON WHILE YOUR TEAM MATES TAKE FOREVER TO KILL HIM.

EDIT:

The credits are awesome, by the way.

Cheez! Gimme a spoiler warning before I start reading next time! T_T* I don't mind reading your impressions of the game, but if you're going to give away bits of the ending you really should notify us in advance...

Eh, I thought about Spoiler Tags, but I sort of knew that the game set up G1 just from the ambient conversation I've picked up from lurking, it's not like it's that big of a surprise, and an alt mode is hardly a spoiler.

^^ yeah, I'm sorry I freaked out, I'm just always extremely particular about what I know in advance about a game... ^.^;

Even so, though, different people consider different things to be spoilers. For instance when ROTF came out, I knew that Prime combined with Jetfire at some point cuz I'd seen all the promotional stuff.

Well, I mentioned the combination to a friend (who's not as Tformer savy as I) and he nearly killed me because it indirectly spoils the fact that Prime has to come back from the dead to combine with Jetfire.

And yeah, KILLED... you may think I'm joking... >.> but I'm not, he hates spoilers to enough to commit murder. ._.

360 of course, that's the cool people console :tflaugh

And these connections of your's aren't going to require me to whack someone in exchange for the code now would they? Not that I wouldn't be willing too cause, well let's face it Shockwave is someone you'd kill for >_>

But yeah if you could snag me a 360 code I'd really appreciate it man ^_^ Though there's specualtion going around that all the codes are the same which would work out even better XD

Lol, the most they'd do is make you reserve some other game that's coming out... :P

But *ahem* I'm afraid I've got bad news... >.>

Preorder codes print out ON the receipt at the time of pickup... a ploy gamestop has been using lately to prevent people who didn't preorder the game from taking advantage of the exclusive reserve bonuses.

I wish I'd known that you needed a code of your own a bit sooner, I probably could have just preordered an extra copy the other day and moved the money to a different game later. ._.;

No worries dude ^_^ I'm sure I can just buy the code off somebody with paypal or something, SHOCKWAVE WILL BE MINE!

Though if you somehow you still wanna try getting me a code with your mob connections I won't mind XD

I like to toy with people who abhor minor spoilers. I understand not wanting to know the big thing of something you're looking forward to (Psst, Dumbledore and Aeris both die!), but it's so funny when people get mad over tiny spoilers.

^^^ Lol :tflaugh the only time I really wanted to hit one of my friends over a spoiler was when a guy I know saw "Zombieland" and

Ruined the surprise where Bill Murray gets shot

. T_T*

Okay, well, I just started playing War for Cybertron and to the point I'm at I gotta say so far it feels fairly solid gameplay wise, though I will admit it doesn't really do anything special or new that other games haven't done before a million times, other than including Transformers.

Enemies always spawn the same way everytime you load a check point... You run around and shoot them. It's the same sort of stuff we've been doing in games for decades now... but, again, with Transformers.

I'm excited that other characters other than the standard will be available for escalation, but a little disappointed I can't use them in campaign, (even if it wouldn't make any sense continuity wise) as I don't always have Friends online on PSN to play with. PLus I'm not a big fan of "Infinite Wave Spawn" games... I like there to be an end at some point, as they eventually become obscenely cheap in order to fail you out, and if you're not failing you feel obligated to keep playing until you do.

Granted I haven't played this mode yet...

One complaint Yuyuyami made that thus far I must agree with is there's very little build up into the story... no background into how the war started whatsoever, just a narrator telling you what's going on at the moment, and then BLEH: You're fighting.

Granted I'm not that far into the game, I haven't even completed a whole chapter of either faction yet, just kinda test ran them both, so I don't know how far my criticisms will fly at this point. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

BTW: I wish they'd gotten Frank Welker to do Megatron's voice, this guy sounds a little too guttural for my taste, but that's more a personal gripe, and nothing to do with game quality, so you can ignore it if you like. ^.^

I like Megatron's voice and detest Soundwave's voice. Soundwave just sounds like he's out of breath. The pauses are less natural and it's distracting.

RRRRGGGGG...

This game's like an excellent transformer that has some unfortunate flaws: It's so awesome you don't want to give up on it, but the flaws are too obtrusive and can't easily be fixed or ignored, so I go back an forth between really liking it and wanting to pass on it.

^^ yeah... there's something weird about Soundwave; occasionally I feel like his voice sounds like a regular guy getting modulated or something... like he's not quiiiite sure how to inflect properly for the character.

*Edit*: I know I was semi-complaining that the game didn't change up the TPS forumula very much thus far, but now that I took a break from the game... I... kinda wanna play it again. >.>

The gameplay itself is excellent, the game just lacks in superb moments of awesome.

In Gears of War 2, I was saying "AWESOME" at least twice a level. I only said "AWESOME" around 4 times throughout all of this game. Not a bad thing, just not a good thing, either.

Few things I don't understand

why they didn't make multiplayer and co-op campaign available off the web. I would want to play a one on one game with friends to see who is the best, or play with a friend right next to me who doesn't have a LIVE acct. But they way they got it set up they have to be a LIVE member or at there own Xbox for us to play.

What is with the lack of colors on the decepticon chassises? None of those colors show up well, all the characters have what looks like battle scars where no colors show up, so your 2 colors don't cover that much. the Bot side is better, atleast you can see those Bright colors.

Why aren't there more Decepticon leader chassises? If there is anyone who wants to level up their leader and they are playing as Cons there will be a lot of sondwaves running around.

I thought these chassis for multi were not going to look like actual characters. They can have same body, but I thought,"surely they wouldn't give you a bot with Optimus prime's head" low and behold, I can make a green OP if I want to. That just kind of ruins it for me, they say you can create your own bot. But all we are doing is making repaints of current characters, which in essense is what the toy makers do as well.
