So I got War For Cybertron Yesterday...

Recommended Posts

I'm two missions away from completely beating it.

It's pretty good, although from time to time during the Autobot campaign I did get the sense that I was playing a different game than Transformers: War For Cybertron.

Lemme explain:

There's this one segment where you have to drive a long distance over an expanse of plates that keep getting blasted out from under you, causing you to have to jump and veer off... Exactly like the end of Halo 3. And even later there's a section where you ride some mounts through a giant underground cave, shooting at Decepticons and eventually a giant squid like creature over pools of shiny stuff that will kill you (Energon). Just like the last couple of levels of Gears of War 1 and 2 (also not helped by the generic Decepticon Seekers looking less like robots and more like weird organic drones).

Whether these were shout outs or just freak coincidences, I don't know, but they were sort of jarring and felt out of place.

I have some other complaints, including:

1. The story feels less like a fleshed out story and more like a summary where you play the high lights. I would have preferred a much smoother gradient in the story telling.

2. I wish the combat took place at night. The sky just looks ugly. The clouds and daytime atmosphere just look out of place. I would have much preferred the sky to just be space, especially since you never see clouds on Cybertron when you see it from a distance.

3. Out of the 8 of 10 missions I've played so far, only one of them has been a flying mission, though fortunately it featured Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp. That's fine, except I also want to play as Jetfire 'cause he looks badass.

4. There is NO variety in the common enemies. I would have preferred the enemies be generated so that they all look somewhat unique. It's... Jarring for only the core Transformers to look unique.

Well, those are my complaints. Everything else about the game is awesome.

You've had if for a day and you are almost done with the game? To me, that really counts against the game.

I played it non stop from 1PM to 1AM. 12 hours for a game ain't bad, especially since I'm going to go through it another time to play as the characters I missed out on the first time around, like Brawl, Sideswipe and Ironhide.

I have Wii Cybertron Adventures and it too is a short game. 4-5 hours gameplay tops! Why do I have the feeling once everyone finally gets this game reality is going to set in an people are going to realize that it isn't as deep or great a game as we all would have hoped for. I still would love to play the HD versions, but my hopes will be kept very low...here's the final (Decepticon Campaign) boss fight for the HD versions. SPOILERS AHEAD

It's not bad, but I had no hopes for the story in the first place, so it's far better than I thought it'd be.

The combat is excellent, though, except for Megatron. It sucks playing as him because his fusion canon shoots so slow.

EDIT: And I love this iteration of Megatron, he's horribly cruel, his voice is awesome and he has some excellent one liners.

EX:

Breakdown: "Man, I'm surprised we made it through that!"

Megatron: "Yes, Breakdown, your constant whining saw us through."

Looking forward to the game too, planning on grabbing it from Wal-Mart at Midnight and skipping the preorder characters, as cool as they are they're all probably going to be Multiplayer Chasis DLC later down the line. As much as I want Jazz I want him in Multiplayer, not just Escalation >_>

And Breaker from what I heart the first shipments of WFC to BestBuys are going to have the code inside the game itself, so even if you didn't preorder it you'd get the character, just what I heard :/

I guess twelve hours of play is a decent amount of time. As long as it takes me about 2 weeks to complete the single player game, I'll be satisfied.

Well, you have the campaign, which has taken 12 hours for me so far, from that one non-stop play session, in which I still didn't beat the game.

Then you have the multiplayer stuff, though I haven't messed with it yet, and Escalation, which ought to be identical to the actual game, just indefinite.

so is it worth the 65 beans???????????????
