R.I.D. to Armada

Recommended Posts

The larger Prime figure as cool as it is, coulda done with better arm articulation. I allways hated the fact his arms just swung forwards and backwards, with no outward movement.

Also, if you didn't know you had to unpeg parts on his trailer before Tf'ing him there was a chance you'd rip the gears to shreds int he trailer, which was a bad design floor. Luckily I never broke either my normal or Powerlinx versions of him doing that. I almost forgot to unpeg one of them once though. makes the most horrible nooise trying to unfold...

Bit like Cybertron Prime its the end results of combining him that make the toy. Its almost like saying PeanutButter is ok, but add the bread and the Jam and that is a whole other story.

I STILL want Hasbro to release a LEADER SIZE R.I.D. Megatron who in my books is only second to G1 down to pure nostalgia for the G1 bot, toy wize design wise he is what I would call the best megs EVER.

They have to fix his ankles if they remake that figure.

I loved the design, and have had a few, all of them toppled over in robot mode thanks to those ball jointed feet.

Ruined the figure for me.

the ankle joints are fine on mine. it's those tiny dragon arms that sit on his waist that annoy me to no end

It's the fact that I've never owned that figure that annoys me.

Me niether, I wouldn't mind getting one at some point but there's bigger priorities in my want list before him

Was there any mold changes between him and RID galvatron to make it a 10 changer, or did they just throw in a few more "official modes" to make him more appealing?

I think just the same mold, different colors and expanded instructions.

Galvatron was retooled a little to allow the 4 extra alt modes. I do agree about his feet but if you do it right, he will stand and not fall over, neither my Megatron or Galvatron have had any problems after I figures that part out.

But how was armada prime one of the best toys? he looks like an anime GoBot reject. Not even the Magna Convoy could save it

You're both kinda right. Megatron was originally released as Gigatron as part of Car Robot in Japan. Takara then slightly remoulded the figure - I think they added or removed a pin or something - into Devil Gigatron, now with 4 additional modes. When Hasbro brought Car Robot over to America as RiD, they used the Devil Gigatron mould using the original Gigatron colour scheme. Ultimately, this mean that RiD Megatron is still capable of all 10 transformations that Galvatron is capable of, but Habsro didn't ever advertise it until rhey released Galvatron.

As for the original point of this thread, I just want to say that I loved Armada! Armada was HasTak aiming Transformers to a new generation of kids. Mini-cons were an awesome idea, however they did sometimes limit the toy designs (Hot Shot's axle cannon, and Smokescreen's cannon for example). For all those who wanted to see Transtech continue - it did. It was called Armada. A lot of the concepts from Transtech (including mini-cons, Megatron's design, and Scavenger's design) carried over into Armada where the concept was further tweaked.

I just want to say that as a kid the idea of mini-cons was awesome - mini figures that unlock secret features and can be added to figures in many different combinations. How is that not cool? Sure execution was not perfect, but the figures had character. It also had some pretty awesome figures - both Optimus Primes were great (Megabase and Bendy), Jetfire, Wheeljack, Starscream, and Unicron! And more than anything, it was fun - it was fun to play with my figures, set up huge wars, swap mini-cons from port to port. And that is what counts most of all.

Although this opinion could be tied up in the fact that Armada Optimus, Megatron, and Jetfire were my first real big TF purchases from money that I had saved up over time, rather than just getting them as presents or spending birthday/christmas money to buy them. I still remember that K-Mart (Australia) was offering a 12 month interest free for toy purchases over $150 purchased using their new store credit card as part of their catalogue that week. I remember working out with Mum a way that, as she had only recently acquired such a card, that she would buy them on her new card and I would pay her back with my pocket money over time gradually acquiring the figures as I was able to pay them off.

So I could be a little bit biased on the matter. :)
