hmmm... to me a figure is who they are. that is the name they were born with and that is what I will call them. I think its great that others go beyond that but for me it changes who they are by changing their name.

Hmmmmm......... Ok from now on I am "The Great and Mighty Vortog who everyone loves and obays!!!" instead of dcj91x...

not to burst your bubble, but you can change your forum name to whatever you want...

awesome thread leige.

the reason i rename my figs is to fill out the G1 roster, in my mind, the classics line never ended. one of my most recent renames was rotf skywarp into Bomb-Burst. hes big and monstery and his head resembles a bat, much like his original pretender shell. it also helps that his alt mode is a jet, so i display him along with bludgeon as classics pretenders (i dont know what im gonna do for an Octopunch or Stranglehold!). i also got rotf ramjet for my classics Jhiaxus, he looks alot like the idw comics version and his alt mode resembles a funky cybertronian space jet with those big ass cannons slung under the wings.

of course, i have a couple exceptions to my G1 obsession, i repurposed rotf swerve as a martial arts master (with his arm blades positioned as bo staffs) named Saiyuki as a nod to the monkey king from the chinese legend, Journey to the West. the gold on red really adds to the chinese warrior theme i think. maybe he can hang out with Drift when he finally gets released.

HA! My Swerve or Overdrive hangs out with Universe Hot Sho, Smokescreen and Cliffjumper. Silverstreak is his sparring partner. Silverstreak is more calculating and more samurai like in his disposition while Overdrive is more like my Wolverine or Ben 10's Wrath. It's pretty easy to get him going!

My TF1 Longarm is a Spawn :P

I know his bio was all about being helpful and stuff, but he's so perfectly evil looking...

Tried but my new name was too long... Oh well, i guess I've just got to be me....

i figure that the toy names are just codenames given by the autobot and decepticon militaries, and they all have real names that they may have used in civilian life, e.g. Orion Pax, Ariel, and (depending on who you ask) Dion. it makes more sense seeing as how theyre obviously Robots in Disguise, and are possibly assigned new codenames between missions anyway. it also helps me to account for multiple figures in my collection that may carry the same name.

however, i do have a tendency to use this convenient explanation as a last ditch effort if i cant come up with something creative...

I dunno about renaming figures.

I do agree about Energon Downshift is totally wheeljack.

I know that when I would play with my TFs I had G2 Smokescreen(fighter jet) and Bomber(stealth bomber)(they have several names)

Since I didn't have a cool/complete starscream I used to say that Smokescreen was a reincarnation of screamer, maybe from the future, and he came back and killed Megs(I didn't have one then) and was Decepticon leader....funny thing is that they used this mold for smokescreen for the Engergon Starscream, which I got last year and it reeks of awesomeness.

Popular misconception the G2 Smokescreen and Energon Starscream molds are two separate molds. However, Starscream is clearly based off the G2 mold. There is the BW2 Starscream that IS made from the G2 mold though.

And yes both the G2 mold and the Energon mold are awesome :)

I looked at them both last night and your are right, Starscream has much more detail and they transform the same way...

Starsceam has that Awesome sword machine gun combo!!

Yeah I was under the same impression when I first got E Scream, but it became apparent shortly after. Both are great toys, but Screamer has that great set of weapons :)
