Design for Masterpiece Megatron

Recommended Posts

it's a little crude right now, but maybe someone can refine it.

I'm having a hard time picturing it, but you are still in the early stages.

I'm planning on using parts from mp prime, as well as a few other 'bots.

Have you updated the plans yet?  Another drawing or list of who you're ripping appart to make him?  I'd really like to see a bit more of this.  Take your time, of course and don't let our impatience (or critisism) ruin this.

Do all of Masterpiece Prime's parts remain attached to him through his transformation, aside from the obviously loose ones?  His fists even?

Ummm...... the arms do stay in the fig, you don't have to take them off :wtf I think the only pieces that are taken off his transformation are his weapons and that's it.

exactly

i am not seeing the transform....

where does the "silencer" go in Robot form?

(...)

Allow me to make a wild guess and say that the silencer and other part of the gun will becom a giant canon, as same as for G1 Megatron:

I was hoping this wasn't the same half-design I remembered, but it is.

There's just so many awkward consessions like the shoulder-stock legs, ommissions in where parts are supposed to go (shoulders, trigger, barrel, 'armor/gunclip' handgrip, etc), and shortcoming in just how parts are supposed to fit in there that never even existed on the original, I just can't see how this can qualify as a demonstration for an MP Megatron that even works on paper, let alone a whole physical model (which again may not be viable due to excessive fragility, complexity, or unrecognizable proportions).

How can two full forearms & hands fit into one chest cavity? How can the hips and head connect to the chest? Where is the abdomen, even?  How narrow will the legs be if they're supposed to become a believeable handgrip?

The G1 figure's entire hip, shoulder, and head assembly folded out into place on an armature; none of those joints were contained internally. I simply can't see how a figure could be designed that transformes from a handgun into something resembling Megatron. Either one or neither form would look anything like the same Transformer, and this concept sketch merely confirms my theory.

It's a nice idea that has potentional for something, don't get me wrong, but it's simply unfair to people to advertise it as an actual 'design that would work' for a transformable MP-sized posable Megatron.

This design is meant to solve certain problems with megatron on a MP scale. But many of the problems would have to be solved while building it. I forgot to write "idea" in the title; I'm only human, you know. Besides, it says in my first post "maybe someone can refine this."

One can take and plan as much as they want (I advise planning to a fault in the guide), but some problems just have to be brought into 3D before they can be fully addressed. (you have to see how the parts fit first.)  I was planning on using an MP prime to accomplish this, and reengineering it as I go to make the transform work. In short: if you find a fault, try working on a solution to it.

Now, as for the other questions...

Concerning the silencer: I would think that it could go on the back next to the gun barrel from the gun mode. As for the arms, did anyone ever think for a moment that just because megatron is the same scale as prime, his arms don't have to be the same exact SHAPE as Prime's? Meg's arms can be slightly thinner from the front, and slightly wider from the sides. Yes, the gun is going to be big, but the megatron walther was only 80% scale. It was a little small for adults.

As for the feet, keep in mind here that just ad MP prime doesn't exactly transform according to the cartoon, neither should mp megs be held 100 percent to it. Remember; we are working with what we have here. I used the stock/feet method to answer what would otherwise be impossible without making an oversized g1 megs toy.

But overall, I strongly advise thinking outside the box on this. we're trying to make an MP megs that is accurate in two modes, nothing says that the transform has to be 100 percent accurate. But rather than saying "we can't get it do do this or that,", we should be asking "okay, that won't work. what about THIS approach." We're working with a design that is from the 80's, was highly stylized int he cartoons, and is a royal pain to accomplish.

*hides under rock to contemplate why he ever posted this design idea*

You musta been under the impression this was a forum for nurturing and growing ideas!

No, I was addressing a problem everyone was encountering with MP megs transform. But at least I'm willing to throw ideas out there, rather than complain about how impossible something is. So the arms may not fit into the chest they way I envisioned. Okay, so we try something else. Kitbashing is often not an exact science, but we try different things.

Thomas Edison made about 1,000 attempts before he made a working lightbulb. When asked about it, he said "I didn't fail 999 times; I simply discovered 999 ways it WOULDN'T work!"

And yes, I do consider this forum the PERFECT place for nurturing and growing ideas! THAT'S where kitbashes come from! :P

WV-

I wasnt criticising at all.

I just dont understand....

and to answer someones snappy remark that his "Silencer becomes the Cannon" - um NO it does not.  Originally the "Sight/Viewfinder" became the Fusion Cannon.

WV- I think some of the ideas you have here are valid.  I think that it is possible to come up with a Tf-scheme that is Better than G1.

But like others have pointed out - G1 megs only looks impressive because of a LOT of Mas shifting.

About the arms - if they both fit in the body/barrel - can they be hollow and collapse down? something like RiD Magnus??

i really am crap at kitbashing but i am thrilled by the idea and respect anyone who tries it.

WV - why havent you posted more pics? that ONE is kinda vague....

Why hasnt anyone come up with an improvment?

Why are we still fixated on lame Gun-Megs when we whould be designing a TANK MP for him???

Sorry if I was a bit crabby, but I can see the solution in my mind. The only problem is that I don't have my shop set up. Otherwise, I would have built the project by now. I haven't posted any more pics because I don't have access to a scanner anymore. My college account ran out, so I don't have that access anymore. I wanted to be more clear on it, so that everyone could see what I mean.

As for the arms, I usually build a mock up to test the feasibility of this.  I was planning to make the arms thinner from the front, and wider along the sides. This would accommodate the arms within the chest.

My point is that just because Megatron is the same size as prime doesn't mean he's the same DIMENSIONS. Not to say that he's going to look all disproportionate, but he doesn't have to be blow-by blow proportionate to prime. But the arms are the least of my worries.

My biggest concern are the legs, and how to resolve that transform accurately. Maybe the walther is a poor choice, and a desert eagle is a better choice for an alt mode. But in everyone's defense, G1 Megatron is a very hard transformer to accurize.

As for Gun Megatron, I love the way he looks. Tank Megs just doesn't have the same appeal for me, although it would be awesome to see a MP version of that as well. I also like "impossible" challenges; If I fail, no loss. But if I succeed, then I've done something awesome.

I think LMH had a Tank megs in his sig for a while that was really cool - it was kinda WWI meets G1 style - the bot really looked like G1 megs...

Anyway - Id love to see more -

whenever that happens
