New Movie Fig Packaging

Recommended Posts

Just curious about this new packaging going forward to the back stretch of the ROTF line. The fact that they scrapped all mention of the movie title and are simply going with Transformers on the box.

Anyone else think that this is Hasbro removing the movie title from the packages because of all of the "WORST OF" press? Or could be, at least in part, because of those who felt that ROTF wasn't appropriate to market toys to kids so Hasbro decided to make a change. Probably too little, too late on the latter.

Or is it simply a new ploy to trick unknowing parents into thinking it's a new line so when the kiddies start begging, then mom might not even realize she already bought that figure once before. (helps move the repaints!)

Another question, are mid-line packaging changes a good thing or bad thing? Probably doesn't matter if you open everything, but I guess I want to know how some of the MISB collectors feel about it.

I personaly don't care about package changes as long as they store well. Call it ROTF, NEST, I really don't care. I say that as a MSIB collector.

As far as removing the name to apease whomb ever. I doubt it, theres another thread today about a continuing profit rise in the 4th quarter. It leads me to believe that the love/hate issue isn't as big as we make it out to be.

I think they're removing the movie title just to have the remainder of the figures coming out fit better on the shelves with all the other sublines coming out. Figure these boxes are gonna start hitting in June, every year thats when the new lines start and I think they're trying to make the most of not having a solid one ready.

What I really wonder is if the "Universe" title will go away in lue of just calling them Transformers?

^ I think that's all this means, "EVERYTHING IS NOW UNIVERSE, BUT WE JUST CALL IT 'TRANSFORMERS.'" This way they can release anything they want anytime they want.

"Oh, we're doing the movie toys again, but we put some hard work into this animated mold. Let's release it alongside the movie toys!"

Honestly. This sounds awesome.

Packaging really doesn't make any difference to my life. I open my figures and 99% of the time get rid of the box/card.

I keep a few Japanese boxes for example my MP and Hybrid Convoys, but apart from stuff like that, meh.

I toss most of the packaging. I enjoy the stuff that's as small and easy to break up as possible. I don't need those giant animated boxes taking up all my trashcans and recycling bins.

I do like the giant pictures on the back though.

Speaking of packaging, I wish Hasbro would improve the character artwork that they use. Hasbro has successfully updated the classic G.I. Joe box artwork. It is both new and creates a feeling of nostalgia amongst collectors. Why can't they do the same for Transformers.

Was kinda thinking more along these lines after I made the thread. With everything coming out that's more sub-line than anything it's probably better to run with a more generic label that way there doesn't have to be so many conflicting box styles on the shelves.

Probably kills some of those other birds as well. Call it a bonus perk.

I wonder if the rest of Animated will be put out in this same style packaging rather than the original style animated packaging. My guess will be they will.

sure, with Movie being the current line, it only makes sense to lead in with that and flow right into whatever...

Unless it's something specific like Titanium or Alts, I mix my lines anyway. For years it hasn't mattered, they're all Transformers to me :thumb

Im guessing its to re sell same toys or same characters of a new toy to moms/dads. :D

My guess.. it's for simplicity for the non-transformer parent. You go and look at these toys and you see all the different sub-lines, and they get confused. Don't know which one is the "right one" for their kid. By removing the sub lines from the packaging and just calling them generic Transformers - people are probably more apt to pick one up and buy one. If they then later find out it's the wrong one, well, at least they bought it and will likely just exchange it or forget about it. I'm pretty sure the motivation is 'SALES.'

Personally, I like having the sublines on the boxes - but most of the lines I collect are imports anyways - so it doesn't affect me much. I do keep all my boxes, but i'm not a MISB collector. I would think this affects true MSIB completists more than anyone.
