TF Movie Updates: Rumors, Voices & Toys

Well, let's face it: the Dinobots were always a bit out of place in the whole "robots in disguise" thing. Imagine Wheeljack's rationale for the creation of the Dinobots in a feature film: "We should have some dinosaurs working for us. They'd really shake up the Decepticons." ...um, how exactly? By NOT being war machines and by being slow and stupid?

BTW this. is. not. news. What we should be talking about is what's at Nevermore's link, where Murphy said that the TFs would be "watching and waiting". To me that sounds an awful lot like RiD.

which is why I prefer the comic versions.

Um...I hate to break this to you LM, but the Dinobots were only slow and stupid in the cartoon. In the comics, they were anything but dumb, especially Grimlock.

As for "not being war machines," a t-rex, triceratops, brachiosarus, pteradactyl and a stegasaurus may not be the equivalent of an US Army assault force, but they will still ruin someone's day if you piss them off!

yep, just check out the Dinobot Hunt or Prey TPBs from Titan Books.

Personality-wise and nostalgia-wise I loved the Dinobots. But lets face it, out of place is an understatement. Granted, they were just recycling Diaclone toys, but the whole concept of a big robot turning into another type of robot is just plain stupid. Now, give me a T-Rex that turns into a space age half-track with a missile battery, and youre cooking. A Pteranodon that turns into an armored buggy makes sense.

Having a robot transform into two types of robot (one humanoid, and one animal) is just redundant. But give an animal type robot a vehicular mode and you've got something that at least makes sense. I think Murphy knows this, its one thing to have a robot that can fight and function using different techniques and would have a much different characterization (Ravage, Laserbeak) but robots into animals is just a little confusing and doesnt fit the whole "alien robots on a differnent world trying to blend in" theme.

I totally agree with you, but we don't want to take that logic *too* far, or we'll be ending up asking ourselves "why the hell do these robots have to look like people in the first place?" (Note to everyone: I don't want to hear fanboyish "explanations" for it; that's not my point.) I mean, if you're a mechanical life form (which in itself is a bit of a stretch), you'd have to be designed in a way that made sense for you. Creating a bipedal humanoid form would seem to be inviting disaster. It's top-heavy and too easily unbalanced. Why not something lower to the ground with treads or something? But then of course we wouldn't be able to "relate" to them.

he has sead that for this movie thier will only be 7 a side thier are five dinobots you can make a good TF when most of the atubot cast is retared

Your point made me laugh, but just to be clear, it's going to be about seven MAIN CHARACTERS per side, not seven characters TOTAL per side. And really, when you're talking about a 2 hour action movie, that's still a lot of characters to handle.

X-Bob?

Maybe Xbob and Blitz are like long-lost separated at birth brothers or something. One in America, the other in the UK... Like in that movie... uh... what was it...
