Does Optimus sound different?

Recommended Posts

I was listening to clips of Optimus, and I just noticed something....Optimus sounded different in ROTF.

In the the first film, he sounded more old, more deeper....

In ROTF, he sounded more like his G1 counterpart.

Here's a comparison:

Megatron's Betrayal, from the first film

I'm in pursuit, from Revenge of the Fallen

Personally I prefer the one from the first film.

Dont remember what it was, but it WAS relatively recent. I saw video footage where it showed a black guy as the voice actor for Optimus Prime for ROTF. I think it was backup voice (obviously not entirely, i dont think) but im not sure. This may or may not help. I know i thought Cullen voiced Prime through both of them, and this confused me. So...

From the clips it just sounds like a different tone due to situation, but they sound the same.

Also, if your thinking of Rico Wilson, he voiced Mudflap.

Exactly. The differences in Prime's voice were the results of the inflections put into them based upon the way he was talking. In the first sound bite, he's simply telling a story with a low, calm voice. In the second sound bite, he's projecting, calling out that he's in pursuit. This inherently raises the tone of the voice.

^it is like that with everyone. Record yourself saying something calmly and then in a haste with raised adrinaline and it will be like that as well.

There is a different dude doing his voice on the toy commercials......

I think its because Cullen was more comfortable in the role. The first film he sounded very stiff, but in ROTF, he had the time to get a better feel for being Prime again and got the better chance of getting into the action.

Yes and on most of the toys but not in the movies.

I dont think the voice has changed, but like others have said, the tone required was somewhat different. His lines in the second felt alot more natural and "optimus like" than in the first, IMO.
