Email Bay for Nimoy!

Recommended Posts

Wow, really? I think of Rocky horror first and then "Darkness" from Legend.

Speaking of bad movies, "It"? The only good thing from it was Curry as Pennywise. He was also fun as the butler from Clue, though I'd forgotten about that movie until you brought it up.

A fun read (if you want to that is slytf.gif ) is "I am Spock", written by Nimoy. It's sort of autobiography of his Trek memories and a very fun read. He also has "I am not Spock", a book written in the 70's in which he puts out what else he has done while embracing Spock as a part. I am not a Trekkie, as it were, but I like the shows and movies.

It really is a shame people such as yourself will never get past his being Spock. He actually has a load of talent besides. One of the better American actors of his time.

Like I said, I don't dislike him. I am just acknowledging him for what (I believe) he is.

As far as being one of the better American actors.....I cannot agree with you due to the fact of the roles he has chosen. I have never seen his stage work, so I can't say yes or no. You can't really count his voice work, cause that really doesn't count as "acting" so much as it is just reading dialogue. he is fine in his Star Trek TV and film roles....but he realy hasn't done anything to justify him being "one of the better American actors of his time."

An actor like Daniel Day Lewis doesn't have a large filmography either, however being a method actor, the roles he picks are very specific and come few and far between. I would put him up against Nimoy any day of the week. Nimoy just doesn't have that great a body of work. Sure he has done a ton of stuff, it doesn't mean he has done a whole lot.

As a huge fan, let me use boxing as an example:

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is 23 years old and just this past Saturday fought his 42'd fight. he never lost a fight, however has One draw. his record sounds impressive (23 years old and already 41 wins, 30 by knockout) but when you look at the quality of the opponents he bloated his record with...it really isn't saying much.

Similar to the resume of Nimoy. He has bloated his resume with Voice work for films, video Games, animated features and acted in TV shows and only on Star Trek movies. Compare that to Hugo Weaving's or even Daniel Day Lewis' work as a legitimate film actor.....Nimoy's record is bloated.

WOw...Daniel Day Lewis? He does a movie every so many years. Not really the same thing. As a matter of fact, saying that goes against your argument for Weaving.

not really. Daniel Day Lewis and Hugo Weaving both are particular in the roles they play. DDL more so though. Weaving has had the luck of being cast in a number of franchises, where as Lewis doesn't let himself take those types of films, but if you look at Weaving, his roles have always been diverse. He does big Hollywood productions and small independent films as well.

Tim Curry as Lucifer in Legend..

Bison Fan, I hate to break it to you, but Nimoy's filmography is significantly larger than Weavings by a long shot. Read his IMDB page: Leonard Nimoy on IMDB compared to Weavings: Hugo Weaving on IMDB. Nimoy's filmography dwarfs Weaving's, and the vast majority of it has nothing at all to do with Star Trek. Weaving has only been acting since 1981, and up until his role in The Matrix, most of his work was done in Australia. Nimoy has been working since 1951, thirty years longer, with a much more extensive resumé in a wide variety of roles in both TV and film. Nimoy's filmography is massive.

Tramp, I hate to break it to you, but Nimoy has not done more films. Did you not read my posts? I know Nimoy has done more work, however Weaving has done more films. Not TV, Video Games, Stage shows, Music.......FILMS.

As far as Hugo Weaving, he is part of Two (soon to be three with TF3) Sci-Fi/Fantasy trilogies. Remember he was "Elrond" in Lord of the Rings and is actually going to play the role in the new Hobbit films as well. Not to mention his work in the upcoming "Wolfman" film and hey, they guy voiced the sheepdog in "Babe." I would say his resume is perhaps greater than Nimoy's. ....Using my definition of legendary, I would say that is more "legendary" than Nimoys Star Trek movies.....but that's just me.

Ah yes. By your logic, the guy who played Wedge Antilles in Star Wars should also be considered legendary. Hell, for as much as Weaving was in the LOTR trilogy, the guy who played Wedge was in it as much. Hell, the charatcter was just as important. What was his name?

You want Nimoy' svoice work? Okay.....

Land of the Lost 2009- The Zarn

Civilization IV (game)- Narrator

Atlantis: The Lost Empire 2001- King Kashekiem Nedahk

Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists- Akron/Baraka/King Chandra

Seaman- Narrator 1998

Armageddon: Target Earth- Narrator

The Pagemaster 1994 Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde

Star Trek: Judgement Rites-Cmdr. Spock

Transformer: The Movie-Galvatron

Lights: The Miracle od Hannukah-Narrator (Oi!)

So yes, Nimoy has a plethora of acting, voice work, classically trained stage actor, all of the qulaifications that make him a legitimate actor outside of Star Trek. Weaving is a very good actor, but I'm fairly sure that Weaving would bow to Nimoy's work and experience.

Also, the Woody Allen, thing..what a longshot. If you want to go that route, why not use Lucas? Isn't he on that legendary status? He worked on STar Wars and Indiana Jones. He also directed a usually forgotten little movie called American Graffiti.

You can make your case all you want, but there is a ton of evidence as to why he could do it very well.

Ok, (unless you're a Star Wars fanboy) no one knows the name of the "guy who played Wedge Antilles in Star Wars" where as Hugo Weaving is a known name. Weaving was in the LOTR trilogy, The Matrix trilogy, the soon to be trilogy of the Transformers, and as I already mentioned two more Hobbit films. Sorry, but this does not in no way compare to what "the guy who played Wedge Antilles in Star Wars" has done career wise. taken from Wikipedia itself. Read the first line alone:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_Lawson

Denis Stamper Lawson[1] (born 27 September 1947) is a Scottish actor. He is best known for his roles as Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy

Yeah, he is as legendary an actor as Weaving :wtf

Nimoy's acting credits are no where near as expansive as Weavings. Yes, Nimoy has had a lot of voice work and is "classically trained" but Weaving graduated from The National Insitute of Dramatic Arts. Classically trained?

I am not taking anything away from Nimoy, I am just stating, as going with my original post, that just because Nimoy voiced Galvatron in the 1986 movie doesn't make him so important to the Transformers series. Anyone "bowing" to Nimoy sounds ridiculously stupid. These people are actors and actors work for a living. Do you really expect a working actor to "bow" to another's "work and experience?"

Weaving has been working regularly in films since 1983. If you look at Nimoy's resume, he has sporadically made film appearance here and there over the years, choosing to do more Voice work and TV work than anything else. Star Trek (2009) was his first film role since 1991 (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) yet that was nothing more than a glorified cameo.

Weaving, although no where near as popular to the fanboys, will perhaps someday be as popular for his characters as Nimoy. However, I think the range in Weaving's work will not allow this to happen. Nimoy, no matter the numerous movies, TV shows, stage plays, books authored, albums recorded etc......will ALWAYS be Spock.

Weaving, will always be "Agent Smith," but he will also be "Elrond of Rivendell" and "Movie Megatron."

Logically, Spock would bow to that.

btw, my Woody Allen reference was a joke, but in actuality, he has acted more in films than George Lucas.....so I disagree with you. I was using Allen's experience with writing, directing, producing and......acting. Lucas' blue faced cameo/extra part in RoTS doesn't count.

Bison, the whole Wedge Antilles thing was to prove that Weaving being known as Elrond was as legendary him.

Anyways, I really don't care enough about your dislike of Nimoy to continue this. Weaving will always be a Smith. He'll never be remembered for Megatron. He'll be better known for his drag role in "Priscilla" than for Megatron. Face it, he's a good actor and been in several blockbusters, but he has years to go before his career atches Nimoy's.

Agree to disagree.

Also, if you don't want to email Bay...then don't. Simple as that.

:wtf.....OK?

He has been in more feature films than Nimoy. I think his career exceeds Nimoys in that respect by a longshot.

I don't dislike Nimoy, i just don't think he is all that important to the Transformers franchise. I can't stand Stan Bush, but I would give him more props for being related to Transformers than Nimoy..

And, I disagree with Weaving being known as "Priscilla" over being the voice of live action Megatron. Say what you want about the quality of the Transformers films, they were a WORLD wide success. "Priscilla" is a forgotten film that never really generated the type of attention that would make it Weaving's most remembered role. If you remember him best for that role then good for you. I actually never saw the film (had no reason or need to see it).

I won't email Bay about Nimoy, thank you very much. But I might drop him a line about offering Leslie Nielson a role. Like I said, I really want to see Frank Drebin in TF3. Too bad Nordberg is in jail.

Ummm, not to take away from Weaving but Nimoy has been in far more featured films and roles. Now to weavings credit he has been in more recent films but no where close to as many as Nimoy has been in. Also Nimoy has been doing work for A&E since 1994 to the present. He was in Fringe in 2008/2009 and of course the new Star Trek movie. He has not done a lot of Acting since 2003 when he retired at the age of 72 to focus on his photography. Which he has also been highly succesfull at.

I personally like both actors. Just please, regardless of who you like or don't like lets try to stick with facts. We all have our opinions which cloud our judgement but there is no reason to get upset over it. Right?

Internet slap fight!

I love Nimoy's voice, and would love to hear it in a Transformers movie. But since it's unlikely that he would be voicing "Galvatron" (or even that Galvatron would exist in these movies), I'm not sure who I'd like to hear him portraying.
