What's your opinion on the energon combiners?

Recommended Posts

I've only seen pictures of them so far of course, but I like the idea of having combiners in Energon. The figures look decent, and they're just what Energon needs to give the series a shot in the arm, in my opinion. Also, it's interesting to see how the TF Technology progresses throughout the series. Originally the Bots and Cons were powerlinking up with Mini-cons, then Primus allowed them to powerlink amongst themselves, and now they can form gestalts. It's such a neat advancement of the technology, so yeah, I think even just the idea of gestalts in Energon is a good thing.

From what it looks like, not to mention sounds like, the four basic Aerialbots Japanese names are very similar to their G1 American names. The Black one is Air Rider (Air Raid) (although the black Aerialbot was originally Skydive), the Red one is Firebolt (Fireflight), the Blue one is Skydive, duh, and the Red and Black one is Sling (Slingshot, not to mention, his alt mode does look a little like G1 Slingshot). Here's Sling's alt mode

well, it's not realy there tech, the Mini-cons were Unicrons cells, so that alowed for Powerlinking, Primus gave them the Spark of Combination, and the Ghestalts are older than Omega Supream.

final thoughts (based on pics)- superion- best individual robots

bruticus- best combined mode

buildron- best overall team since its not amazing but all of them have pretty good points unlike the others who major in one point and not the other

yep, that's what I think, can't wait to get them though!!

Looking forward to Bruticus middle guy (Onslaught in Japan), the middle guy for Constructicon Maximus, and the little black/blue jet and Grey/red A-4 from Superion.

they aren't great, they got so manny flaws, starting with hands and feet and armament(but that's a general energon flaw)

i like bruticus the best and if i will ever buy one it will be bruticus, teh other 2 just are not good enough to spend money on

says you.

You say things that are wrong, see?

If I were a 50 foot robot, probably the last thing I'd use were apposable thumbs. You are designed to blow stuff up, why do you need fingers?

Once again, X-bob's life revolves around assuming he's the only fan who watched Armada and Energon, in the fandom.

Once again kid, spend more time in grammar school and less time on this message board.

The Combiners in Energon are pretty small in the show, no larger than Megatron. They are the ancient guardians of the Super Energon(blue), and they fought over it til they literally ran out. Omega and three Sentinels blocked the passage way and went into stasis to prevent the Energon from ever being used. Eventually, streets and cities were built over this area, locking it away. The trick with the Combiners and Omega are that they contain different sorts of sparks. Unlike the outdated dinosaur in Generation 1, the Combiners don't have personalities for each component. They are treated like Tidal Wave and Omega Supreme. Just a large robot that can break into smaller components. Essentially, Superion, Buildtron, and Bruticus are their robot mode, and breaking into several small vehicles is their alternate mode.

Omega becomes a long train, capable of space travel. Half crane, half war ship.

Superion becomes 5 jets...and so on.

The intersting thing is that only the center robot speaks. The limbs are treated almost drone-like, and just follow the leader around.

what i think-

superion- all the figs look awesome in vehicle and bot modes and the combined mode looke pretty awesome -but- only when the dudes with the two rifles are the arms. they look crappy as legs. overall i like the whole shebang

bruticus- i love the combined mode more than any other combiner. thought i thyink the limbs suck. the tanks have huge tank wings and skinny flatfeet. and the helicopters would look better with a snow and desert camo, but no they have to runi the military look by being neon orange and purple >:C though the center dude looks like the most awesome of all of the individual gestault figures *drool*

buildron- i like this ojne the best since the colors arent all that bad and all the molds look awesome. i find the combined mode average but oh well.

They're not worth it.

Actually, the G1 Micromaster 6-combiners were like that, I believe.

Sorry, just getting that in before X-bob does ;-)

I have to admit I like the concept of independent personalities having to cooperate as a team and merging, but in reflection, it IS sort of creepy to think how it's really got to work.

At any rate, Superion is the only one without opposable thumbs, isn't he? And I don't know the big fuss about the feet. Who cares about the feet, it's not like they get pedicures or anything.

And Air Raid WAS the black Aerialbot. Skydive was the grey one.

Oh, and on topic...get them. Get them for sure. Wait for the cheaper US ones if you must, and only buy the molds you like if you're picky, but they're great individual toys if nothing else.

the combiners are a step up from the last couple of line in tfs, where there where only 3 to 4 guys in the combination. they did good to go back to g1 standers and give you 5 solid figures. personally i cant wait to get them!!!

Im unsure about them. My main beef is that there's only two different limb components per set.

Couldn't they have at least done a little remoulding between them?

I don't buy Archers comment about it being *too* expensive, I suspect it's more a case of making costs lower....
