Anyone else enjoy GI Joe over RoTF?

It isn't impossible to get some characterization from that many characters. I mean, with all the throw away scenes the writers and Bay had in RoTF, they could have at least added some scenes which fleshed out some of the characters. Jolt came out of nowhere, Sideswipe had a line and that's it. The Arcee chicks...nothing. The only characters in ROTF who had any semblance of characterization were Prime and The Fallen and the Twins (not real characterization, just killing screen time). The rest of the Autobots and Cons were relegated to background characters. (even the movie 1 cast)

Storm Shadow, Duke, Baroness, Cobra Commander, Destro, even Ripcord are shown in more layers than one.

GI Joe wasn't "funny" because is really wasn't meant to be funny. There are some slight comedic elements as with most Stephen Sommers films, but it wasn't trying to force "funny" moments the way RoTF did.

I am a die hard TF fan and enjoy GIjoe but not as much as I did TF growing up. That being said lets compare...

Writing:

Joe: Very well written with back story and witty dialog. I never felt like they were trying to force you to enjoy what they had written because they didn't need to. Very few gaps in story continuity throughout movie.

RotF: Writing was overrun with bad dialog and jokes. Very little back story of any kind. I felt forced to listen to the bad dialog. From the beginning of the movie to the end the continuity and overall flow of the movie made me feel like the took a dictionary threw it in a blender and pulled out one word at a time and used that as the script.

Action:

Both movies were very fast paced and at times it was hard to keep track of who was where but overall RotF had a lot more, so much in fact that it distracted from the movie. Joe seemed to balance the action and character aspects quite well.

Acting (humans):

Joe: Experienced, well directed acting.

TF: Ummmmmm, are boobs bouncing considered acting?

Music:

Neither one had the theme songs from the originals…. I was disappointed in both movies for not throwing it in the credits.

Morality:

Did anyone else notice that there was little to no cussing in GIJoe and very few over the top sex related jokes? Does this mean you can have a good movie people will watch without forcing people to see that crap for over 2 hours.

Over all out of everyone I have known who has seen both movie thay all liked Joe better because the writing, acting and most of all, lack of humping dogs was so much better.

Also: Nako, you really hate people not agreeing with you don't you. It's great that you loved the new TF movie. I am glad for you. But really, on a very few actually enjoyed it over the large numbers that went to see it. A lot of people were exspecting better from it. Something a little more serious and real like we found in GIJoe and not just a lot of imature crap.

If GIJOE makes more then TF1, I'll eat all my words and agree with you guys 100%. Not even that, if GIJOE makes it to 500 million worldwide, I'll eat all my words. I still think it's a safe bet that it won't.

One more thing, the Military was represented a lot better in ROTF then GIJOE. And that's where a lot of the scenes went to. And btw I'm bias because I'm a former navy airmen. The aircraft carrier in ROTF, USS JOHN C STENNIS, that's my ship. I had to eat the shitty ass food there everyday for 5 months. I got dumped in anti-freeze and had to eat my breakfast off the deck of that ship. The guys in Red, those are AOs(Aviation Ordnancemen) , that was my job.

A little inside info for you guys. All the aircraft carriers in the US fleet become Pirate Ships for a day after it crosses the Equator. They even hang up a skull and crossbones flag, and all the newbie saliors get put through the BS I wrote about earlier, to become SHELLBACKS. If any of you were in the Navy, you know what I'm talking about.

Children of Men made $69 million worldwide in 2006, while X-Men The Last Stand made $459 million. I am willing to bet 9 out of 10 people who watched both would pick Children of Men over X3.

Just cause a movie makes more than another DOES NOT make it better. Besides, I never said I liked it better than TF1. I said it gave me the same feeling when it ended.

the military isn't supposed to be represented serious in a GI Joe movie. Seriously, why would you expect it to be represented serious? Just cause they are military? Like i said in my review, it wasn't supposed to be a serious movie (see The Hurt Locker if you want serious military).

Yes, I wasn't expecting any serious Characterization. How many characters are in ROTF? maybe over 25 main characters in the whole movie. It's impossible to get character development with that many characters. Also ROTF was much much funnier then GIJOE. I enjoyed just watching the funny parts that filled the movie until you get to the climax. Ripcord had 2 funny lines in GIJOE, and that was it. If I wanted Transformers Characterization, I'll watch Beast Wars. ROTF was meant to be a fun summer movie, THAT'S IT!, no more, no less. Same goes for GIJOE. It was fun, but not as fun or as funny as ROTF.

25? Lesse, Optimus, Bumblebee, Skids, Mudflap, Megatron and Starscream. Thats 6. I don't think you could argue Ironhide, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Grindor, Constructicons, The Doctor, etc because they were hardly the focus of the film, thus making them not the main characters. Basically everyone but the 6 took a backseat I think. Wheelie and Jetfire had some more screen time but I would hardly call them main characters either. My argument against Jetfire being that we only see him for a short time in the movie.

List of some movies that made less then Transformers but are better then Transformers (in no particular order):

Gran Torino

Independence Day

Watchmen

Wall-E

Taken

Iron Man

Tropic Thunder

Full Metal Jacket

Valkyrie

Sin City

Eagle Eye

Aliens

Silence of the Lambs

Shaun of the Dead

300

The Abyss

as of right now: GI JOE

What? :wtf maybe 25 characters in the movie but certainly not main characters. It was not impossible to get character development in ROTF, Bay simply chose not to do it, when he did it was a half-a$$ job.

I'm going to leave the "humor" remark alone to each is own as to what "funny" is.

I haven't seen GI Joe, though I'm thinking about seeing it sometime this week, so I'll leave that alone.

Again what? Without characterization you don't even have a movie, you just have randomness crap. You can have a fun summer movie with a decent plot, character development, etc, again Bay chose simply not to do it. I enjoyed ROTF for what it was worth but I certainly didn't think it was a "good" movie.

Exactly! Just cause a movie brings in more money doesn't make it a quality film. Hell, Spider-Man 3 killed the box office (grossed more than TF1) in 2007, yet Transformers was a better film in the eyes of many. nakobass, please tell me you don't think because it made more money you thing Spidey 3 is better than TF1.

Action sequences and special effects aside, only going by pacing and characterization, can you honestly say RoTF is better?

Thats really the only reason why people, who know nothing about TF, would watch the movie. Its just eye candy. I went into TRoC expecting eye candy, although there wasn't alot of it. I was, however, treated with something better.... a story.

GI Joe wasn't "funny" because is really wasn't meant to be funny.

Exactly, who in the world would go into an action movie expecting a lot of humor.

I would like to include Black Hawk Down to this list.... that is if this list doesn't excludes anything thats based on a true story.
