hes already mine even know i don't him yet but i will

German car companies have already made it clear they dont want to be associated with war machines...

Which is funny since most of the big ones originated during wartime. BMW was originally created to manufacture military vehicles while VW was created during the reign of the Nazi regime. :tflaugh

WWII is why they don't want to be associated with war machines. Although it's a bit two faced in that both have been involved in gun fights/car chases in Bond films and other movies. BMW makes cars because they couldn't make war planes after WWII (look at their emblem, its a white propeller against a blue sky). I wonder if there is some sort of legal issue...

Back to toys, I wish audi would let them make a kick ass R8Tf (and S5 for tha matter). I'll be buying the HA figures, from the looks of them.

He's most likely talking about a licensed Audi alt mode.

You don't need a license to show a vehicle in a movie (really, can you imagine how expensive it would be to make a movie if you had to get permission and pay a fee for every car that appeared onscreen?) You do, however, need a license to produce a toy version of a particular vehicle. Bay could've shown Sideways' vehicle mode all he wanted without a problem, but Hasbro cannot legally make an accurate toy of the character without Audi's permission.

We already know that... My question comes from the fact that he did transform in the movie... German car companies have already made it clear they dont want to be associated with war machines...

And, as I just said, that doesn't matter. You don't need a company's permission to show a car in a movie. You only need permission to produce a replica of said car. Which is why they could have Sideways' movie altmode be an Audi without a problem but they still needed to make changes to the toy.

Did you miss the part where he transformed into a "war machine" in the movie?... I dont know how to make it any clearer since you repeated something that is irrelevant to the question... He transformed so it means he isnt just a car anymore...

There has to be a legal tightrope that Bay/Hasbro walked to make Sideways and put him in movie if everything about the German "anti-war machines" is true. I would have to agree that Audi did product placement and payed them to have the vehicle in there. I am sure behind closed boardroom meetings that they agreed to do so because they knew this movie would be a big hit.

The meeting probably went something like this...

Audi - "We want to place our Audi R8 in your movie, but do not want it to be associated with "War Machines" because....well you know....WWII."

Bay- "We'll place it in the movie, but it has to transform once so that it can be believable. I will make sure it does not hurt/kill anyone in the movie and it is destroyed quickly in a cool fashion so the idea of being associated with "War Machines" doesn't even happen."

Audi - "That works. Here's the money."

Bay - "Cha-ching" :awsum

---after Audi has left----

Bay - "I told you GM wouldn't be the only one to want to pay us to put their cars on the big screen! [To Hasbro] Remove the Audi badge on the toy so we don't get sued. I told you I'd could get it done!"

Hasbro - "Here's your cut, you've earned it."

Bay - "Cha-ching....Cha-ching!" :awsum

*this is a fictional scenario. If any real occurrences happened in real life it is merely a coincidence."

The German car company thing is funny. Over-compensation is a silly thing, usually involving violence, e.g. tiny penis = .44 Magnum. It's even funnier when it involves peace.

And as I've been trying to tell you that does not matter. You can put any car that you can point a camera at in a movie and have it do whatever you want. You may choose to make deals with car companies for product placement purposes but beyond that you can use any car that you can bring to the set and have it do anything that your special effects budget will allow without having to get any kind of permission from the original car company.

I really doubt that or we be seeing more non American TF alt modes... If your statement is true wouldnt we have seen a spectacular fight between Sideswipe and Sideways...

Isn't the car supposed to be "wider" and "shorter"?

There's a part of the foot that peaugh didn't mention. It covers the top part of the wheel and makes somewhat of a difference.
