Clear Plastic Color Change Help

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I love doing repaints on transformers. And I swear, one of these days I will finally take a pic of my Concept Bumblebee repainted as Waspinator.

But I have a question about another repaint I want to do.

I've gotten into making custom DC action figures. I already made one for an original hero I created, Paradox, son of The Blue Beetle and Goldstar, nephew of Booster Gold. That one I thought was going to be the worse, as I had to rip off a cape and totally remodel the shoulders. Took so long to get right.

But now I run into a new problem

I want to make a Green Lantern Booster Gold, due to the inside joke that everyone calls Booster "Green Lantern" on one of the JLU episodes.

The problem is...Booster has clear yellow goggles.

Worst comes to worst, I can try and rip them off and they paint a mask onto his face, covering the glue marks. But I'd love to do green goggles.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to change the yellow's color (either through paint or removing it and finding something that I can make into a green visor) or should I just rip the goggles off?

Clear ligh-blue paint ... might become a dark green, but green & transparent nevertheless.

Try testing the paint on some similar transparent plastic first, because washing it off might make the transparent plastic all matte and untransparent, so you only got one shot at it.

Tamyia Color makes a series of colored acrylic clear coats including a clear green. It's number X-25 Clear Green. It's a very deep emerald green and completely transparent, which is perfect for a "Green Lantern".

^ Which won't work unless he makes it thick enough to cover the yellow. In which case it will probably no longer be transparent.

Yes, it will work. I've used it on Yellow, and light blue clear plastics, it works perfectly because it's a darker color already. It doesn't need to be put on thick to change the yellow plastic to green.

THanks for the advice. Will have to wait to do it, though....blew 47 bucks on a Bonecrusher and a Legion Flight Ring today, as well as buying The Blackest Night #1...but Booster can wait to be bought and worked on.

GLASS PAINT/OHP marker.
