Differences in the G1 Comic and TV Series

Recommended Posts

Oh, I preferred the Furmanator too, but Budainsky does get the credit for creating all the G1 Transformers we know today. Unfortunately Budainsky wasn't a very good storyteller.

he wasn't a good storyteller, but I still hold him in high esteem. Gotta give him props for giving us G1 in the first place. In my mind, the G1 triumvirate is Furman, Budiansky, and Mick/McDonaugh (or whatever he's calling himself these days :tflaugh )

Heh -- welcome to 20 years ago... :tflaugh

Comics better. TV show lamer.

(To be fair, I wasn't into the comics at all during the 80's -- it wasn't until much later that I even realized that there was a different continuity in the comics, and that it was, for the most part, far superior.)

Same here, I think I have maybe three or four issues of the latter part of the Marvel series.

I think he is referring to the marvel continuity.

Dude there is so many differences it isn't even funny: numerous character differences, origin of Tf's, design. I beleive the Tech Specs were made for the comic so there character descriptions and character were often much different than the G1 cartoon.

For example the cartoon tf's were created by the Quints. Comic they were created by Primus to defeat Unicron. Who could travel through time and parallel universe to abstract minions.

I am referring to the Marvel comics TF continuity, and I completely forgot the origin of the TFs being Primus vs. Quintessions

The thing I liked about the Marvel run was the 1st 40 issues. After that, I felt it got a little bit sloppy then they had a transformer clearing house with the Underbase. They became more galactic after issue 40 which expanded the scope of the G1 comic universe.

But on the other hand, I loved the UK version. Times Wars and Target 2006 stick out the most but the storyline was better than the US by far. More serious too.

yes, those were truly awesome stories. I highly recommend getting the trades by Titan Books :thumb

One question, and this might be a little lame, but it's always bugged me: in the Marvel comics, Megatron's "helmet" (head armor) was colored dark grey, but in the cartoon, it was the same color as the rest of his armor. How come?

hmmm...good point. maybe that's also the reason why Prime had yellow eyes like his toy version too.

I haven't read the Marvel books but from the character discriptions It sounds like Dreamwave has alot in common with the Marvel books. I Like the Dreamwave comics stories I've read so far. I love Grimlock being smart. It makes him less of a joke. I like it when characters not only have power but also the mental ability and skill to use to use to power effectively. The comics are way more real.

The comics were aimed a a different audience than the cartoons I believe. At any rate, the dreamwave comics are definitely for a more mature audience. Now, if only they did a CGI G1 series that was scripted by by the writers for the comics. (I know, I know, I'm dreaming again, aren't I?....)
