My Drunken Semi-Literate ROTF Rant...

I actually really liked the new trek movie and I am an older (sorta) fan. But than again I actually paid attention to what was going on and understood it.

Any ways, Yes. TF could have been a great set of movies and can still be. But honestly I do not find Bay and the writers as much at fault as I do Hasbro for allowing it. Lets be honest.. Hasbro should have set some ground rules for the movie and told bay it was crap as soon as bay and the writers made the autobots a bunch of merciless killers who's soul pupose was wiping out the entire race of decepticons.

Yeah, forgot to mention that - apparently freedom is the right of all sentient beings - except Decepticons. It's not even like they were causing trouble, just hiding peacefully in Shanghai as a construction digger and an Audi R8: the Autobots and NEST actually started it. I think I'll buy the Sideways toy out of sympathy...

As for Hasbro, yeah they're a big company - but Dreamworks and Paramount can afford to throw $200,000,000 at one film without even blinking, it's made twice that or more at the box office and counting: they could probably buy Hasbro if they wanted to. Besides, look at the quality control compared to the Takara/Tomy figures - the Japanese care about the quality of the franchise, Hasbro only care about the money.

You know I would agree with that completely. Look at the quality of the non-US figures compared to the US ones.

I think there is a lot more care going into the takara figures to make them look good and not just to get them out there to sell.

Well technically as a movie it is suppose to give us all the context we need to understand it. So just going off of what it shows.... You can't arguee with the Autobots appearing as more evil than the decepticons.

But really, Hasbro does all the work creating the toys. Takara piggy backs them and has the time and resources to "perfect" the toys being that they have barely any R&D to invest into.

The context that the Autobots and Decepticons are at war is evident. So is the fact that the Autobots want to protect us while the Decepticons want to destroy us. I think it's the other way around, that you can't argue the Decepticons appear more evil than the Autobots.

Agreed...the Autobots are freakin jerks.

The autobots cuss and make sex jokes. The Decepticons did not and the one that did chose to become an autobot. I think alice would have stayed in school and gotten an education if Sam had not come along and screwed it up for her. You know she had to of enrolled a while before she ever knew Sam was going to go there. Maybe she was trying to beter herself.

The Autobots unproved hunted down the decepticons and brutally attacked them... The decepticons were shown defending themselves.

The decepticons were trying to save their own race no matter the cost. The Autobots were willing to sacrafice all of their kind to pacify the humans parinoia.

I mean leaving out any other TF history and concentrating on just the movie. Who would you really call more evil. Those willing to let their own people die or those willing to do anything to save their people.

^"There are plenty of reasons to hate on this movie. I don't think an argument that the Decepticons were good guys and the Autobots were bad guys is a valid one."

Isn't that one of the most valid reason? The autobots were/are suppose to be the appitamy of all things right and just in the unuverse. With OP the ultimate consciencness of what is good and evil. Would someone who is truelly good rip the head off an enemy who at that point is defensless?

Oh and to add can you blame a meteorite for landing where it lands. In the first movie it was out of sheer luck that there were no humans standing where the autobots landed. Why did they all not just land in open fields?

How about we say out of all the TF's it is M. Bay who was the most evil for the inhumanities againd the Transformers he commited?

Would that work for everyone?

Wow o_O

That's a lot of weighty discussion that's gone on in my absence; well done everyone for keeping the ball rolling - great stuff on a possible American Civil War subtext, although I think the film's too retarded for that to be anything other than an afterthought. Like I said earlier all we see of Cybertron is what looks like a Matrix 3 outtake... :wtf

As to the Decepticon murdering antics of the Autobots, context is everything. In Star Wars Episode IV, there's nothing to suggest that the Empire is any worse than a regular government - they board the ship to retrieve stolen property, the rebels shoot first, etc. until they blow up Alderaan; after seeing them use their new weapon to destroy a peaceful, defenceless world that is a part of their Empire, there is no question that they are 'the bad guys' and the rebels have the moral high ground. Where was that in ROTF? It's clearly shown that allegiances are malleable and I don't recall Sideways or Demolishor cutting up some of the locals to see how they worked or anything like that - we know that Starscream, Megatron, the Fallen (he does cut up some of the locals to see how they work), etc. should be terminated on sight after the first film, but it can't be taken for granted that this extends to all Decepticons, especially in the context of Jetfire and Wheelie's conversion to 'good guys'.

I actually really liked the new trek movie and I am an older (sorta) fan. But than again I actually paid attention to what was going on and understood it.

:rofl :rofl

I to felt sorry for the cons, getting blown up for no reason in particular other than just being there....I just felt what was the point of going through all that trouble only to have them show up for less than a minute.

I think that sometimes you can judge the quality of a film or film-maker by, when you see something wrong you ask: "How easy would it be to fix this?"

Prime executing Demolisher is a good example of this. "How easy would it be to fix this?"

Simple a line of dialogue by Ironhide or Lennox: "Alright boys, be careful. This Decepticon is wanted for 7 counts of Murder, and about 50 different war crimes, with an outstanding Warrant of Execution. Orders are to terminate on sight."

There, you see? Now there's a perfectly good reason to kill him. He's a criminal so terrible he has to be shot on sight, and you added about 10-15 seconds to your movie.
