SL Superion

Recommended Posts

Finally opened mine up last night and it's pretty cool. The center peg isn't very loose so it doesn't have the Floppiness Maximus problem.

Bruticas is going to totally rock. Too bad Buildtron is a TRU exclusive. I'll have to end up grabbing a set from my Energon stock when they arrive.

shame i swore that from now on i will only get alts/binaltech and masterpiece

Hey

I'm the guy that wrote that linked review.

The peg problem is a DEFINATE downer, and it is a nuicance to fix, as too much glue can be just as bad.

Gestalt mode, while 'poseable' isn't incredibly playable IMO but makes for a ncie display piece.

However I firmly believe now that Superion is a worthwhile purchase, but its because each individual bot rocks.

The limbs are some of the nicest basics around and Afterburner is a nice solid well articulated toy. None lose a thing for being parts of a gestalt.

If you can get a nice price you are still getting 5 very nice roots evenif you never make the big guy.

P.S. Look for a bruticus review this week.

Hey, thanks for all the responses, owners of Superion! :clap They are really useful in helping me to decide if I should get all the Superlink gestalts (since if I buy Superion, it'd probably mean that I'd have to buy the rest :redface ).

TechniColorPooka, I really look forward to your review of Bruticus since I like your honest review of Superion. :thumb

Okay, got my SL Superion from BBTS today.

I like him. He's really nice, and actually to me, feels about the same weight as his G1 Metal predecessor, albeit SLIGHTLY lighter.

Center peg? Yep. A Problem. Not a problem if he's just a display piece, but for a kid playing with it, or for when you're just messing around with him and admiring him, it comes into play. I have some clearcoat drying on the peg now, to see if that helps out a bit.

Looks? Sufficiently badass, and would make an incredible decepticon if the colors were darker. I may pick up, piece by piece, the Hasbro version as it's released to do as a repaint.

Best way to configure him? I like him as either both A-10s as the legs, or the red basics as arms, and blue basics as legs. With the color separation, he has some VERY nice looks. Symmetry is the bonus for the other way to have him. A pity that he's incredibly hard to pose with the F-22s as the legs, because with the A-10s as arms, he's got this massive look to his upper body that you won't see in a combiner outside of Predaking or Computron. (Face it, most of the G1 combiners save for those two aren't too stocky - G1 Superion looks like the Shawn Bradley of Transformers - really tall, REALLY thin.)

Worth it? Yes. I like him very much, the biggest problem I have save for the center peg issue is his appendages - I would have liked to see some G1 style footplates (another bonus of the A-10s as legs), and some actual fists instead of somewhat goofy looking energon weapons.

Overall? 8.2 (point off for Energon weapon appendages and that nasty center peg issue), or 4 out of 5 stars.

I don't know what a good price is for the Superlink version, but I paid through the nose for it--with the overtime I'm working now, it's paid for easily--and I think you're probably better off with the US release.

Chestpeg is a HUGE problem on mine also. It's almost depressing.

Also, the tiny head turret-gun keeps popping off my Skydive if you touch it at all (though it seems okay on Slingshot).

The energon appendages on Air Raid/Fireflight don't stay on too well in gestalt mode. The heel panel has two little clips that are supposed to flip out and lock into their feet, but it doesn't seem to really work. Not a huge problem exactly, but Skydive/Slingshot are comparably far more secure.

Afterburner's legs are a bit mindboggling with the tiny nontranslated Japanese instructions at first, but once you get the hang of it, you're golden.

Air Raid vs Fireflight is actually a very good color scheme difference...if they had just had different heads they would look so much more distinct. Less so for the other two.

But other than that, it's (or will be) a great value *at US prices*. The individual bots are excellent and surprisingly complicated, lots of twisting and minor adjustments on the little guys. If you're bummed about the repainted limb syndrome, buy three with the distinct molds, those alone are worth it separately. The gestalt mechanism is great...the clips are solid but not too difficult to separate, and the articulation is pretty adequate. BEST of all, Superion's huge feet are extremely stable, and while he assumes funny leg positions cuz the calves are so wide, it's not at all difficult keeping him upright.

Got mine Wed(BBTS), opened him but didn't transform/combine him until last night.

I'm loving him too...I do feel that I paid a tad too much for him but that is something I've come to accept doing occasionally as a collector.

I haven't has as many problems with the center peg as the other posters here...but maybe some tips are in order:

----The folding side plates have to be very accurately placed in the torso in order to support the shoulders properly.

----I seem to have better luck when I slide the peg down into the opening rather than putting it straight in...it seems to help support the weight of the shoulders better.

----If you don't want to use glue/clearcoat, just wrap the peg in a tiny piece of paper before you install it(thick paper).

The Accolades:

He looks amazing. Very thin at the waist and broad at the soulders...lanky but not so lanky that you laugh at him. Said before, the feet are HUGE which is great for stability. He is suprisingly light, and the articulation is very good. I love the way that everything has a place...the F-22's especially have a cool limb-transformation where everything fits perfectly to provide support. I was very suprised by this.

Very well done.

Aesthetically I'm loving the head...the grimace looks like he's right in the middle of a battle or taking some serious orders from Prime. The colors are excellent and give him the appropriate "tough but benevolent" presence. I don't mind the lack of hands at all(why exactly does a giant war-machine need fingers?). But I probably wouldn't have complained if he had hands, either.

Supercool...now I'm impatiently waiting for Bruticus...

Worth it? Well...that simply depends on your finances and general disposition as a collector.

It was for me.

Yep I am on the second wave from BBTS.com, I ordered mine the week it was released so I am sure that I am on the second order and will be waiting another week or two before they ship it out.

Actually I am going to send an email to joel right now and see when the next shippment comes in. Will post responce here for everyone still waiting.

I've got SL Superion, and I quite like him - despite the little chest peg problem. I also think it's a shame that he's not physically bigger, since there only seems to be one Autobot gestalt, as opposed to two Decepticon ones.

That's nothing new. From G1-2 it was only Superion, Defensor, and Computron for the Autos, but Devastator, Bruticus, Menasor, Predaking, Abominus, and Piranacon for the Deceps. The Autobots were always behind on the Gestalts. :tfsad
