Alternators' Build Quality

Recommended Posts

Well I dont have the officially released alternators, (only the prototypes) but they run, look, and transform perfectly fine. Though if I had a choice, Im Binaltechs all the way. Sure the alternators you can drop on the ground without worrying as much as the Binals, but if you handle the Binals decently they wont chip as much as the rumors say. (and thats coming from someone who took 2-3 hrs transforming their first BT and then leaves it stashed on top of other rubbish)

thats my 2 cents...

I have a comment.

Why don't we stop bringing up this debate every other day? It's old and never leads to anywhere.

Why don't you stop being a confrontational jerk every single day? It's old, and never leads to anywhere.

Seriously. Try -not- responding negatively to every person you see, just for a day.

Nobody "brought up" anything. The guy commented that he has problems with his Alts, but not his BTs, and asked if the rest of us have had the same problems.

As I've been told several times in the past, this is a public forum. It's purpose is to provide a place for conversation and debate. Get over it.

And at least we're contributing something to the discussion. What, exactly, did your comment contribute? Nothing? Yeah, that's what I thought, too.

I recommend you change your attitude.

This bit had me in tears!

Have that problem a lot with BT Swipe too. It's not a problem with the toy, he just takes a lot of extra squeezing and fiddling with the rear wheel/arm joints to get them just right, for some reason. Hound and Smokes have never given me any problem.

I agree to a point...but I've seen BT Hound chip from being transformed...it was really frustrating.

I also think BTs are quite worth the money if you can make sure to take care of them...and I do mean really take care of them.

To me it's gotta be Alternators all the way...YIPPIE!!

Also --

Does anyone ever have trouble TF'ing Silverstreak? Like My Smokescreen transforms no problem, but my Silverstreak's legs are a bit off...like one is a bit warped and it makes it really hard to TF his lower/back half. Anyone else have this problem?

My personal preference are the BT's. I prefer the way the paint looks, and the sustenance that the metal brings to them. My first BT was Streak, and after that I picked up Hound. Wanting to save money, I picked up Alt Sideswipe, but was really dissapointed in the way the colored plastic looked next to the painted BTs, so I then got a BT Sideswipe and was much happier. I'm now going to use my Alt Swipe and create a Sunstreaker using his parts, so it wasn't a total waste.

So far I've only had a few chips, and the major one happened to hound as i was removing him from his packaging. I was impatient to get him out, so i used scissors to cut him loose, and inadvertantly scraped him a little. That's the last time I ever did that. I enjoy transforming them and displaying them frequently, and I've found as long as I'm careful, I don't have any problems with chipping.

As for quality, I finally picked up BT Smokescreen GT after passing over the original Smoke. One of his wheels was not installed all the way, and it's really loose and wobbly. BTW, does anyone know a good way to press in the wheel pin so that I can fix the wobbling problem? The other major defect is on Streak. One of his ankle joints is incredibly tight, and ever time I transform him, I really have to fight it to try and move it. I have to use so much force that I'm scared of breaking it sometimes. I've tried loosening the screws, but to no avial. He usually stays in robot mode now due to this problem.

So I feel it really boils down to a personal preference. As we've heard, both the Alts and BTs are subject to defects, and I think that they are both of equal quality. I like the paint and feel of the Metel, and don't mind the higher price, so I buy the BT's. If you like the durability of the plastic, and don't mind the colored plastic look, that the Alt's are probably for you.

I have 4 Alts (Smokescreen, Sideswipe, Hound & Silverstreak) & a Binaltech Smokescreen, & I can honestly say that visually the BTs are definitley better. However, I like to play with my figures still (I'm 19 & don't care if you think it's sad. Infact anyone else who plays with your figs I encourage it :thumb ), & for this reason Alternaters win with me. I especially like Silverstreak since they didn't go with silver plastic but painted him silver. It's like having the best of both worlds with him.

I can't say I've had problems with Sideswipe yet, But I occasionally get confused with Smokescreens arms. I'm sure other people still sit there with him & say "Why the hell won't you just go in you sodding B@$t@RD,", I know I have on the occasion.

These figures are very complex designs & what you've got to remember is that all productions are not going to be the same. Some are going to suck, & you are going to get pissed off by the fact that the hood or the wheels ar not going to sit right. My advice is to take or send it back to wherever you got it form. AS a "collecter" you have the right to have a pristine figure WHEN YOU GET IT. What happens aftrer is your problem but until then It's Hasbro's or Takara's.

I was blown away by the quality of Alt Streak and Hound. At that stage I was thinking "If they keep this up, I won't bother with any BT's". They're so nicely painted those two, that they look as good as BT's to me. However, Dead End is back to the Sides and Smokes standards, and Meister is far worse. Very cheaply put together. I suggest BT for Meister at least.
