City Commander Upgrade kit

Recommended Posts

^Just looking on BBTS at the price for those superion limbs it looks like we're all going to have to save some serious moola.

I think it might be possible they'd do a second run. You can't really compare it to the CJ kit though, that was some exclusive or what ever wasn't it. Wasn't that the whole reason they said no to a re-release awhile ago when someone e-mailed them about it. This was just some regular release, so I don't see why not if there was enough demand. Judging by some of the posts here and on youtube it looks like there is quite a bit of demand.

cost doesn't really bother me. It's availability.. obviously they don't have the means to keep it in production indefinitely.. I guess it just stings that I didn't have the funds available when it was released, but now I do. Oh wells.

I'd save your funds for their upcoming releases. The Superion Limbs and Protector Armor look very promising.

Screw those, I want Springer and Broadside!

^ Why shouldn't they cost as much as they do? They put in the effort for over two years on the City Commander and it ended up BRILLIANT. It pushed Classic's Magnus into the Masterpiece zone.

It pains me to agree with you 100%...

FansProject needs to keep the value of their products up. If they produce more, then the value of their products will decrease. If they say a products has limited production, then it needs the be a limited producuiton or the collectors of the first release may be upset.

By the way, just because a few vocal people rant about wanting more of something does not always accurately reflect what the market will actually be.

More importantly for people who ask for this stuff, it is better to buy it in the beginning and preorder before it is too late if they truly wanted it, as they may never know if a product will sell out and go out of production. I know that some people probably did not have the money to buy or not cared the City Commander kit when it first came out, but if they really wanted it, they should have got it as early as possible. Some people who missed out early are regretting not buying it at the time it came out. Do they want it because you originally though it was great idea, or do they want it because other people like it and are jumping on the bandwagon? Those in the latter catagory will have a harder time coping with this issue.

To sum up, if you really want to collect a product, it is best to buy it early so you will not regret not getting it later. I preordered 1 City Commander Kit last year and I would be happy whether or not there is huge demand or not because I think it is was a cool idea at the time. If the price and demand were to drop, I would still be fine with it because that is what I believe in. I try not to be caught up in a frenzy of what's popular and what's not.

Here is an auction for the City Commander Set with Ultra Magnus. This is one example of the prices people are willing to pay:

Yeah but Fansproject same as Hasbro or Takara make nothing from a secondary market. If I sold my set, they get nothing, so whats it to them what "value" their pieces retain after the inital sale?

However if they make more, they can keep selling more.

As for the idea that they can't keep rerunning the figure, Shadow Commander, and Powered Convoy say otherwise. If they can do that why can't they keep making it in red, white, and blue and keep cashing in?

^ Legal issues with Hasbro. They don't want to become too lucrative that it's worth Hasbro's time to sue them.

Why, these aren't KO's, they're brand new products?

All they'd have to stop doing is showing the Has/Tak product in there promotion art.

IF anything Has/Tak would have to buy them out, which is win win for everybody.

Eh, I think it would be a losing situation all the way around. The primary company has to spend time and money on lawyers/court costs. The fans based company loses it shirt and possible rights to something they created and the fans lose out on a cool item and lose faith/dislike the large/primary company that started the process rolling.

Has/Tak is most likely being open minded about the fan made stuff in part due to it not cutting into their main line profits. So far, most of the stuff made is add on materials for the primary toys so that is not really a big deal to them as long as they are not using the exact same articles for other items(Ala the slight difference in the wheels on the CC armor) so as to avoid copyright infringement and to still be respectfully to the company(I would surmise) and the UM mold. That combined with FP, BTS and so on not cranking out hundreds of thousands of units help cut down on the infringing of the Has/Tak revenue charts. As for not showing the owned properties, I would like to think there are some rules/regulations floating about that state the fair use of an item for certain reasons or that an items likeness can be used as long as there is something that distinguishes it from the original(not using the A/D symbols, same colors as original item, paint schemes, ETC.).

I would think that if they did acquire FP for example, all they would do for the most part would either vault the schematics for the items made or make them Con exclusives only so as to limit their production(further) and to possibly show that "Hey, we might be jerks, but we'll throw you a Con bone here and there". Past that, they could just shelves the entire product never to be seen again. But I seriously doubt they would bother unless monies where seriously being diverted, then the lawyers would be loosed. One never can tell, and, I could be hopelessly wrong.

In all honesty, there is such an after market for so many items made today that in all reality, not bothering the AM people serves a better cause, that being the larger company not coming off as imperialistic about their products and being a good sport when someone comes up with a good/better idea to enhance a product the produce. Take a look at the AM street racer market, loads of goodies, loads of buyers and the major car companies seem good to go about it.

My .02

OK but FP is looking to start making their own Transformers. They may call them something else, but we all know what they are.

Now Has/Tak buys out FP. Lawers for Has/Tak are on retainer, and any decent negotiator for FP can get them a very good dollar for there existing designs as well as a staff job.

I've seen this happen many many times.

Now, Has/tak buys FP's molds and concepts. The produce them, we get them for a more regular retail cost, with greater availablity. After all, the Transformers line has always been a back and forth mooch of product between Takara and Hasbro. I don't think either company would kick out premade pieces.

Now lets just say for giggles that the people at FP don't take staff jobs, all they have to do is come up with a new company name and get started all over again.

Something else I've seen happen many many times before.

Has/Tak is global, and you have to consider that what we consider expensive on our level is nothing on there's(even though they have us to thank for it)

We don't know though, maybe they're just making up grade kids to make some TF into springer / broadside.

I preordered the limbs set, seeing there won't be much I'm looking for in Rotf (yes I'm a hater~ so sue me =P )
